Matchmaking, is it getting worse?

Voxfire·7/12/2016, 9:32:53 AM·35 votes·1,549 views

The number of times the matchmaking is realy broken seems to go up. I wonder if its just bad luck or if others feeling the same. I realy dont get how the system works. When my team is bronze/bronze/unranked/silver/gold, how can i be matched against diamond/plat/plat/gold/bronze with no notable duo queus?

I dont want to sound like a whiner, but these games are not going to be enjoyable from the start. And while i enjoy a good challenge. This is just rediculous. Can it be because i played alot of games? I played about 5000 games i think (no rankeds) Is this somehow shifting the matchmaking like this? If so it seems like i am encouraged to make another account and get all the toons again (i have all champs).

I gues that makes sense in a money grabbing view of ways..

matchmaking = take close players put them together.

players aren't close enough in elo, wait a bit longer, oh look close mmr players match time! (silver 4 ~ silver 1)

players arent close enough in elo, wait longer, still no players, expand the search parameters, lets find some who are just a little bit apart. (bronze 1 ~ gold 5)

we have g5/s4/s4/b1/s2 vs s1/s1/s3/s3/b1, and thats right, you've guessed it, the g5 is in the lane against the b1. .... riot - but the teams average is the same! clearly its fair! they both have the same chance at winning (completley overlooks that it set the best player up for success against the weakest player, because hell 10-0 kill leads dont matter)

is no one going to mention the simple fact that matchmaking times have gone up tremendously? used to be a minute 30 for most players is now 4minutes+ on average?

Ranked and normal mmr are not the same. You could be 2000 mmr in normals and be unranked or bronze in ranked. Or 2000 mmr in ranked and 200 in normals. Completely independent of each other.

Ive been saying it all day long that the complexity of adding 1/2/3/4/5 man teams became too much for the alogrithm to handle.

The funny thing is how easily this system can be broken. Take a silver 1 player in his series, he goes and grabs 4 bronze five players, plays hyper carries, and stomps games. Rinse Repeat. Dyrus broke it down for everyone on his stream. Dropping from Gold to silver, or Silver to Bronze is nigh impossible. So, what happens is people use that system to break into gold/plat, can't get any higher, and then start dropping back down to the lower elos. The system is literally broken. It can't sustain itself like this. Eventually, you are going to have a bunch of people either in inflated elos, or the system crashes down on itself from the frustration of seeing high elo players, in lower elo brackets because they got boosted to their current level.

Tl;Dr Ranked is too easily abused now.

RIOT is jacking with the algorithm trying to lower the que times and I think it's having an adverse affect on the matchmaking system. You have very few good games and mostly wipeouts now. The game is slowly becoming unfun because RIOT leadership is allowing this to happen too long to get the stats everyone knows is basic common sense except them.

In the DQ roundtable they said that creating fair games at low ELO would be no problem. Well, wake the hell up RIOT. It's become a problem. Getting your ass kicked or kicking ass every game is boring. You people need to get a clue.

The people who run RIOT act like big brothers and we are their younger siblings. They are being bullies and are telling us it will be right when we say it's right. How else can you explain why they won't create a set schedule for the random modes on the weekends. There is absolutely no reason not to set a schedule. They treat some of these things in their game like they are national security concerns. They are full of themselves and that will ultimately be there demise.

People are leaving, and since the pool is smaller, it's hard to have balanced matchmaking with fewer people.

Normal MMR is separate. The situation described is only broken if the average Normal MMR of both teams was significantly different. No offense meant whatsoever but it's a little weird if you've played 5000 games and don't kown this lol

I had a Definitely Not Dominion game last night where one member of my team was Level 22 and another had a Master tier border. I'm mid-Silver...

Norms MMR is different than Ranked MMR. They might be diamond ranked players but doesn't mean their norms (or any other queue) is at that mmr.

Thank DQ for that....

I think riot has increased the shittness of matches to keep queue times low (compensating for lack of players)

Rta 99457/13/2016, 2:13:47 PM1 votes

Not only are teams coming up extremely unbalanced, but when I queue up solo I'm lookin at 8-10 minute long queues all times of day ( unless I solo queue support....then it's almost instantaneous)

PhDs Nuts7/13/2016, 3:55:35 PM1 votes

Matchmaking in normals should be based on the higher of your normal/ranked MMR. I constantly have to play against high plat/diamond in normals. I don't know if my normal MMR is just really high or their normal MMR is really low, but the teammates I'm playing with get stomped constantly.

Blanchimont7/12/2016, 2:36:01 PM1 votes

The new queue focuses on shortening queue times more than anything. The longer players are in queue, the more likely matchmaking just says f*** it, here's 10 people for a game. The result is that games are more likely to be imbalanced and matchmaking is sacrificed to ensure shorter queue times. However, there are players that have left because of things like this going on and until players can replace them, queue times will continue to be long.

also the better you do, the more riot expects you to carry your allies. Even if this doesn't reflect in the ranks of those beside you. When you really get on a win streak. You don't only notice your gameplay growing stronger. But in every game, 4 new people that you have no idea how much they know. So they make the same mistakes you watched your allies make last game. And it carries over and over. Over time you notice even MORE things you wish your allies would do for you but never do.

And yet.. every time.. my enemies can win their solo lanes. Do my allies? LMFAO!!!

Kudrov7/12/2016, 3:16:40 PM1 votes

matchmaking is getting worst and its all related to a simple fact. yes less and less solo players are queueing up for ranked so the matchmaking system gotta adapt and we can see some crazy shits happen now.

The Deckowner7/12/2016, 3:19:48 PM1 votes

A single duo can fuck up matchmaking for 8 other people.

Like oh this diamond and this bronze is in a premade, looks like they are gonna face a bunch of gold while they have silver~plat in their team.

Guess what is worse? Dynamic queue is the same matchmaking system. So imagine how bad ranked would be.

I lost my series into S1. I was feeling bummed and I looked up my opponents. While I was trying to get into S1, one of my opponents was G1 in his series into Plat. Needless to say I was tilted.

Locke Daemonfire7/12/2016, 10:41:46 PM1 votes

Just play ranked. As much as people have been complaining about DQ, the matchmaking for ranked is still far better than in normals.
