I Feel Like its Time For an Answer to Why we Can't Select Fill/ Something we Don't Want.

It has been said before and I'll say it again, there should be an option to choose a roll you don't want when you select fill. I really just want an explanation from someone like Meddler as to why this can't, hasn't, or won't be done.

BTW I came here after two angry supp games because I fill

Although I'm having trouble finding it, there was a response about this before the new champ select even came out. IIRC the problem was that the system was too counter-intuitive.

The following is my interpretation of this, not the official Riot response.

You have to remember that the League community isn't representative of the average League player. The average League player is someone who plays a normal game once in a while and maybe a ranked game in some rare cases. They probably don't watch many guides, don't read patch notes and don't keep up with the PBE. For this kind of player, the option of fill except for X is odd because normally you select stuff that you want to play.

You might be thinking "we can just write instructions!" The problem is that unfortunately, users don't read instructions, especially if they think they know what they're doing. After queuing up many times in the past, a user won't bother to read instructions whenever they select fill. The amazing thing about the current layout is that it doesn't require any instructions besides "Primary" and "Secondary".

The lack of instructions means that all five players can fit onto one screen, whereas writing any instructions is going to take up a bunch of space that will have to be taken from somewhere else. You can either take that screen space when the player selects fill, making that one option change everything and look odd or you can have that space available all the time, which means having a big empty space whenever the player isn't selecting fill. Either way, things don't look as nice and you're still going to get a bunch of people not reading the instructions.

If you disagree with this, that's perfectly fine, honestly I have some doubts as well. I just want to let people in this thread know that Riot has already responded to this, although again I'm having trouble finding it. I suspect that it might have been on Lyte's Ask.fm, but he deleted his account which shut down his page, making his responses inaccessible.

I agree, if I were guaranteed to avoid bot (marksman) it'd be awesome. It would be good if you could exclude two rolls from fill too (because you can't select three roles). It might get more people to play fill, even if it won't cover as much.

  1. I understand playing "fill" to play a role that " fills " but if you are getting angry because of " Came here after two angry supp games because I fill " don't hit fill

                                                                               FILL = SUPPORT

( Fill is support, why because its the least picked ROLE that no one wants to play )

Instead why not pick the 2 ROLES that you D0 !!! want, instead of clicking fill and complaining that you got a role that you didn't want to play? 6 options to pick from Top-jng-mid-adc-sup-Fill

" I want to play Mid as its my main XD XD XD and I suppose I NEED to click a second option to be able to play the game or I won't be able to get into the game, " GG RITO making me hit twice to get into game, but I don't want to play JUNGLE, but my second best role is ADC cause I'm Doubelift jr. but ... Ill just hit fill instead and HOPEFULLY I get the roles that I want instead of Clicking them myself.
??

I feel like you should just be given an option to select any number of positions you want. If you only want mid, then fine, wait around for it, if you're fine doing anything but support, fine, select every option but support. There really isn't a good reason not to.

Apparently people are confused by this, but I think it makes sense. It's basically saying: Why can't we queue as "anything but JG"/"anything but supp"? As he points out, it would probably reduce queue times, although I wonder if it would perhaps be more difficult to implement.

Fill is for when you don't care what you get, although 9 times out of 10 you'll likely get support because it's the least played role (which is fine for me, since I'm a support main).

If you want to play something off your normal, just pick two of the 4 roles you don't usually play. Bam, you're golden. And if your concern is that you won't have the option to get chosen for the other two roles you didn't select... well, then next game play with those as your option. I acknowledge that the fill function is fundamentally a second support button, which should be addressed, but... if you're upset because you got support instead of any other option, then you really don't have anyone to blame but yourself.

I think the real issue is that if "Fill Any except Support" existed, then queue times would be all that much longer for non-support players. And likely even shorter for support mains.

(Seriously. Give support a chance. Queue times are almost non-existent. Is beautiful.)

selecting only 1 role LOL yeah and having queue times jump from 20 minutes to 50 minutes great

Foxstep5/13/2016, 7:33:31 PM1 votes

Look I'll tell it once again. Fill means every role is a possiblity. Sure most of the time you will get support but still fill means fucking fill. And not fill but not one certain role. If people were able to chose a role they don't want, everybody would take support.

Probably the same reason you couldn't select random but not zerg on SC. It effects so few people it doesn't make sense to spend the resources on it.
