PBE: Damaging a champion below 50% health deals adaptive damage and harvests their soul, permanently increasing Dark Harvest's damage by 6. Pros:

  • Souls stack automatically each time you hit an enemy champion below a certain health pool
  • Deals damage without the restriction of having to basic attack
  • Procs regardless of range (e.g, Karthus ultimate, Kaisa W, Jhin R, etc)
  • Cooldown resets on takedown
  • Synergizes well with execution-based type champions Cons:
  • Only stacks on champions
  • Has a cooldown (45 seconds)
  • Procs only below 50% health
  • Damage can easily be countered by healing and invulnerability

Live: Enemy and allied, champions, large minions and large monsters that die nearby drop Soul Essences on the ground. These last for 10 seconds or until picked by moving close to it. If you kill the target yourself, the Soul Essence will be automatically picked up. Champions grant 6 Soul Essence; large minions grant 4 Soul Essence; and large monsters grant 2 Soul Essence. Pros:

  • Stacks off large monsters and large minions
  • Synergizes extremely well with assassins that use one auto attack in an all-in (e.g, Rengar, Khazix, Talon , etc)
  • Souls last for up to 20 seconds, becoming 300 seconds after 150 stacks
  • Deals damage regardless of health pool
  • Has no cooldown for stacking Cons:
  • Achieving 150 souls isn't very easy
  • Requires a basic attack to proc
  • You have to walk towards a soul on the ground to obtain it if you did not kill it
  • Only gain 2 souls from large monsters (assuming you are playing Jungle role)
  • Doesn't deal as much damage as other runes in the early game
  • Damage can easily be countered by armor and auto-attack resistant items (item 3047, item 3143, item 3075)
  • Completely useless to champions that don't use auto attacks to eliminate their targets
