The Problem(s) With Pushing Zyra's Power Into Her Plants
Hey all, Zyra Support/Mid/Top player here with my 2c on why the Zyra you know and love will suffer from being made into a plant mage:
1) Stationary Sustained Damage Is A Liability - Zyra's immobility aside, her plants won't serve as a reliable form of sustained damage if the opponent can simply walk out of range. Sure, they can be used in combination with other spells to get around this, but that's actually more of a burst pattern than it is sustained. Buffing Zyra's plants will mean nerfing her other spells, trading damage from spells that stand on their own for damage that requires combos ****to land reliably. There's a reason so few people play Heimerdinger, and (for supports among you) even fewer play him as a support.
**2) Making Plants Spammable Will Hurt Their Utility ** - I can't know exactly how Riot would implement a more-plant-focused kit, but I can't see Riot giving those plants a comparable amount of utility. If Riot didn't like Skarner permaslowing people, they probably won't ike Zyra doing it either. If Zyra's slow remains on her plants, then this likely amounts to Zyra's slow getting nerfed when she gets pushed toward baing a plant mage.
3) The Seed System Will Make This A Pain - If Riot's sold on this change, I sincerely hope they scrap the seed system when they do it. Simply giving Zyra players more seeds is still not making her a sustained-damage champion, it's just changing how many keystrokes you take for your burst. Further, the fact that you need your other spells to make your seeds do damage means that you're still just as restricted in plant placement as you are currently. More seeds will only equal more plants in a single place, not any greater freedom to place your plants. Really, the seed system along with the passive on Zyra's ult both lend themselves to her current burst pattern & won't serve her as well should Riot try to focus her around her plants.
tldr: Pushing Zyra's kit toward a plant focus will harm both support and mid Zyra. Mid Zyra will lose the burst potential that handles mobile opponents much better than immobile plants would, and would prefer to deal burst damage as she needs her spells to combo for reliable plant damage anyway. Support Zyra's will suffer from a loss of plant utility should plants become easier to summon, and sustained damage isn't a high priority forZyra in that role.
