Season 5 Suggestion: Big Components build off Small Components.

Here's an idea for Season 5. Do you know how annoying it is to save for something like a item 1038 Riot? Forget item 3072 , do you know how hard it is to save for a BF Sword in lane? So why do these items build normally? You are apparently building a Component for item 3508 so why not items like the item 1038, item 1058, etc.

Example: I want to build a B.F. Sword. How about instead of making me save 1550 Gold, forcing me to deal with Two Dorans and Boots before either IE or Bloodthirster, you instead make the heavy cost items build off of lesser components. Here's my idea in a nutshell. Build Path for B.F. Sword: item 1036 (Longsword) (360 gold) plus 515 gold or two Longswords (710 gold) plus 165 builds into a item 1037 (Pickaxe) This makes Longswords even more useful throughout the entire game because they now become a component of a Pickaxe and, by extension, a B.F. Sword. It will no longer be a sin to come back to lane with less than your first big component.

Do this for all items, the biggest examples I can think of being: Amplifying Tome builds into Blasting Wand builds into Needlessly Large Rod. Longsword builds into Pickaxe builds into B.F. Sword. Two Ruby Crystals make a Giant's Belt. Two Cloth Armors can build into a Chain Vest. A Null-Magic Mantle can turn into a Negatron Cloak. These simple changes will drastically improve item build paths and allow those backing early to have more of a chance of coming back to lane a bit less behind than they were before.

I don't know if there's a better spot to put this, or if this will even get noticed by a Red, but I hope it does, because it's a simple change but it would make the game significantly better.

The offensive components really don't need to build out of each other, for simple power spike (and delay of power spike) reasons.

The defensive components will be allowed to build out of each other, since they are, in essence, mostly reactive buys, and being able to build a cheap component item reduces the snowballiness of top lane majorly.

No.

  • Offensive items building out of different components means different items build paths have different power spikes and exploitable weaknesses. i.e: if you decide to save up for a BFS and your opponent grabs a Pickaxe, you are making the choice of letting your opponent be stronger than you for the duration.

  • Defensive stats are generally reactionary but also hard to itemize for. You can't ask someone who can't stay in lane to save up 720g for a Chain Vest or waste money on a dead end item (i.e.: cloth armor they can't upgrade).

Consider it an anti-snowball mechanic.
