Why isn't Lissandra played much?

Her popularity rate while not terrible is not where I'd expect someone with so much cc to be. With how frequently dive junglers have become and how popular the Jinx/Vayne hypercarries are becoming, why isn't Lissandra played much?

She may not do the amount of damage others do (and I think I just answered my own question there) but she can basically eliminate a carry from a team fight and stop pesky gankers far more reliably than most immobile mid mages. She seems very peripheral to the current meta when her kit seems to fit very nicely in it.

Mediocre damage, short range.

She was super popular for about a month after they nerfed mana regeneration hard.

Then they rebuffed Athene's and Cinderhulk was introduced. Lissandra isn't the best anti-tank champion.

Her Q is... so bad. Honestly, they should increase the width and range if they're gonna nerf the damage on it.

I mean, it's kind of like why syndra and kayle aren't played, there are just better champions to fill the role. And they're easier to use effectively.

the damage loss on her Q hurt.

But she also struggles to do anything against most tanks, so yeah.

I find it frustrating to Lane with Lissandra against most standard picks. Her main "poke" (poke being a real stretch. I'd call it a short range obligatory skillshot that's not particularly good at anything) puts you in harms way if you wish to harass your opponent in any meaningful way. Even when using the extended after-effect from hitting minions, the total range is far less than popular picks known for poking (xerath, ziggs, lux, i-could-go-on) and the cone-shaped spread is actually pretty narrow (did I mention short?).

Furthermore, Lissandra trades tend to push her lane, a lot. While you might say Lissandra is equipped to deal with a push lane with her escape; the distance traveled doesn't amount to much when any champion can cover three quarters of said distance running. Lissandra's claw moves painfully slowly and visually queues enemies exactly where Lissandra is going.

unreliable escape, high mana costs, low ms, relativley higher CD's compared to other ap mid laners.

she needs to land her Q to do anything.

shes very effective at what she does, its just that i want my AP mid laners to be able to put out more damage than CC.

Idk I think she's great and her laning and team fight is so good but she just bores the fuck out of me

People play her to counter melee champions. Against long range mages she can't do much.

the thing about lissandra is, as most have mentioned, her range. Her Q is really short at its base range not counting the initial pass-through. Her W is also short range as is her ult. The only real long range skill she has is her E which has a high cooldown and is also one of the major aspects of liss as it serves as a zoning tool and an engage, escape, and re-positioning tool and almost an identity to her. She's a mage that you're going to want almost literally in the middle of the teamfight as her spells almost all (or rather, they all do if you count her E being a self-cc) crowd controlling abilities. A W that roots everything in a small radius of herself which is good anti-gank, especially if a poor bastard tries to dive under your turret. her ult can be a tricky decision whether to ult an enemy or yourself sometimes since the effect lasts longer (i think close to double the time) on yourself, but the drawback being that they need to be in it to take damage, whereas the enemy-cast version will stun/suppress(forget which) the enemy, guaranteeing the damage on at least that one person and you can also unload the rest of your spells on them in the mean time.

Due to her nature of needing to be IN the fight, building things that come with built in armor (zhonyas) or MR (athenes/abyssal) helps her out quite a bit, with zhonya's active synergyzing quite well with her self-cast ult as enemy team can wait for her self-cast ult to wear off to focus her, only to have a zhonyas after that to annoy them or wait for CD to E away or W root them just to increase survival chances.

I personally like liss, just E-ing in from jung is funny as hell.

Actually Lissandra is one of the most OP champs but only skilled players knows how to play her because of her really short range in lane and she needs some combos

The problem lies with teamates. At lower elos, even if the Lissandra does her job right, it is rare that her teammates will capitalize on the cc she provides. This means it is better for people who know what they are doing to play a carry so that they eliminate some of the RNG in soloq.

On the flipside, in higher elos, people do capitalize on Lissandras CC. However, the enemies are equally skilled, and will most likely have countermeasures to Lissandra (qss for example).

i use her every now and then, but most smart ADCs just go QSS.
