Can Rakan AA at his full range in his ult when he already charmed the target?

Rn if Rakan ults, his AA range becomes melee so he doesn't just stand and AA instead of charming. But if the target is already out of the charm, Rakan can't charm them again, so it's pointless for his AAs being melee-locked any further. I actually missed kills because of it.
