Just me?

Is it just me or is support getting really lackluster over the years? I haven't been able to play much due to two deployements (US Army), but it's not what it used to be. I just feel like I have such a little impact unless I play Braum, Janna, Soraka, or a kill lane. Maybe I just want to play Sona and relax while I play League. Not everyone wants to go hard to the paint and end the game at 20 minutes. Thoughts?
