why make alterations to champions

to change a champion that has been in the game as long as soraka seems unneccessary. if the reason is because they are not played enough or they are overpowered ? i don't see why that is a legitimate reason. i was curious because i saw this as a strategic game where we were handed certain abilities and restrictions that we would have to work around in order to adjust to each champions abilities like building magic resist and armor or using our experience to predict the opponents next move. but how can we grow if riot decides to make the game easier by reducing an opponents ability?

The Meta is constantly changing, with new champ releases, new items, etc. Riot changes older champions to keep them viable.

It doesn't matter what you see is a legitimate reason. League of legends is not and never will be 100% balanced. As they introduce champions and mechanics to the game it slowly because more and more unbalanced hence the need for a constant balance pass. Sometimes champions are utterly overpowered and need to be nerfed. Sometimes champions are weak and need to be buffed. Sometimes a champions kit is so binary and/or broken that it needs to be reworked so they actually can be buffed or nerfed.

Balance is not a pinnacle. It is a tide.
