Ideas to make League feel more welcoming to new players.

The biggest problem the game faces is that it is a very hard game to get into due to the overwhelming amount of information to learn. Without a friend teaching you how to play, new players usually just leave and move on to something else, so here are some ideas to make the game feel less overwhelming for new players.

  1. Create a Tutorial for each role: Yes this would require a lot of resources but this helps show the purpose of each role and especially useful for those who weren’t introduced to the game by a friend.

  2. Allow experienced players to make “training wheels” for new players: By this I mean if the new player gives permission for the experienced player to alter their account, they will have the ability to choose what abilities get leveled up first automatically , create rune pages for them and what items to buy each time they return to fountain automatically for the new player. This way they don’t have to be annoyed by pressing those level up arrows every time or remembering to buy items each time they are at fountain. It’s something that can be done for them until they get good enough to do it themselves.

  3. Create a Dictionary page in the client: Mentioning certain terms to new players can be confusing for them and hard to remember such as ganking, farming, freezing, turtling, feeding, warding and so on. The dictionary can be used to not only help new players learn terms but also learn tactics that they wouldn’t have thought of.

  4. Show champion classes in the store: What I mean is that each role has a class to better associate what kind of champion they are. For example there are two kinds of Fighters, Juggernauts (Darius, Illaoi, Garen) and Divers (Vi, Hecarim, Jarvan). When a new player looks at the store and sees Vi and Darius, they will think they play very similar because they are both fighters and could achieve similar purposes in a team comp which isn’t true. The champion’s page in the store should have a spot to describe what their class means to help better explain the champion. The Dictionary I mentioned earlier should also mention these classes and what their purposes are.

  5. Create a service that allows random experienced players to teach new players: For the new players who aren’t introduced to the game by a friend, they are left learning a lot to truly enjoy the game. If there was a program that rewarded experienced players with Emotes, skins, LP for teaching new players how to play. It could go a long way. It helps Riot because they are new players joining the game easier and thus more revenue and help players by creating new friendships. In order for the experienced players to join the system, they would have to be a high rank, preferably plat or higher. ———————————————————— TFT stuff:

  6. Create a tutorial for TFT: One of my friends who is plat in normal league hates TFT because he doesn’t understand the game at all or what he needs to achieve to win. It took him a while to understand how to level up champions, the purpose of leveling yourself up, and still struggles with what each hex does. If a plat player is struggling to understand TFT then I can’t imagine how much help a new player would need so creating a tutorial for TFT would really help the game not feel overwhelming for them.

  7. Make an in game item chart: This will allow players to see all the items in the game and be able to easily plan what they want to go for on what champions. Every time I play TFT I have a cheat sheet on the other window just so I can see what items I should try to get based the ingredient items I got from pve rounds. However it does annoy me since I can’t see both the game and the sheet at the same time (unless you have 2 monitors). By creating an in game item chart it will help players plan ahead and teach new players all the items.

I agree completely, although on 2 i feel like just typing or speaking what to get should be fine.

not sure how he struggles to understand tft.

Memorizing what every single champion does is a bit of a pain in the ass. As well as learning every single set bonus., but the hexes literally tell you what they do, and pretty much everything else is self explanatory.

While these ideas ar all ideally great. Each has a few issues that I feel are hard to see from the view as an experienced player.

This seems like great ides. But in reality it just creates an even higher learning curve, plus the Dictionary page could get tooo confusing. A new player may end up going into games expecting that they HAVE TO know how to freeze a lane or slow push.

I feel the player should be left to figure it out for themself, though the champion classes should be cleared up a bit better, though maybe just a small explanation of how the champion ins played.

League shouldn't be welcoming in new players at all because they ruin matchmaking with their lack of any sort of rating. They are also more likely to troll games for low levels as they are not playing to win which is the cornerstone of this game. New players don't build right, don't know the meta, and constantly don't understand directions.

There's thousands of youtube videos, there's no excuse to go into a game blind. If you're not Challenger at the start, there is no point in bringing people in. We want fair matchmaking and that means keeping the pool as stagnant as possible for the sake of stability. Fresh blood creates random variables and you know how we feel about randomness.

2 (except the account altering because LoL wold get full of scammers) and 5 should be combined to a mentoring programm. The pro player would get applications from players that would like to be mentored and if he accepts and finishes training for X amount of people, if they positively rate his mentoring, then he would earn RP rewards from Riot themselves.
