Autofill is counter intuitive
Auto Fill is counter intuitive to the problem that it's trying to fix. When there's a small population of players in high elo in queue, auto fill is enabled to make queue times shorter. Auto Fill makes the problem even worse though because the quality of games drop when players for one team are in more off roles than the other there is a massive difference in skill levels. You don't want to experience these terribly imbalanced games so you don't queue up which extends the hours auto fill is enabled.
To those that might say that "auto fill" is just like old solo queue are completely wrong. Players have been encouraged to specialize in 2 roles without the need to learn the other 3 in the last several months. If you don't actively practice a position then you'll lose proficiency in that position very quickly especially when the game shifts with changes as well.
Role swapping is not always an option because others might be in desired roles and not have proficiency in other roles to swap to. The system just ends up with Diamond players in a position that they do not have a great understanding of how to play in the meta vs. a Master / Challenger main in that role.
