ranks reset at the start of S9. in early january.

We're in preseason right now. Riot is testing a number of changes before they're satisfied with the start of season 9.

Until then you're free to continue playing ranked and changing your MMR, because the soft reset means that the higher you go the higher you'll start next season.

Does not need to reset for you to continue to build a stronger MMR. Keep playing to increase your rank to help you place higher start of next season.
