Why I keep failing with Assassins?

I somehow don't get hang on their playstyle. I own and have played a bit Katarina Akali Leblanc (altough LeBlanc I have played only 2 matches lol)

Excluding one rather successful Akali game where I got a lucky triple and face rolled from there lol I've been disaster. As Kata I get shit on on lane, same with Akali. I can't really kill anything. My lane opponent just outfarms me and outharasses me.

On teamfights I'm useless, as Kata I can go once CC is blown but for some reason E-Q-W-R-Triple kill isn't working for me :S

As Akali I can suicide for their ADC or APC but it's one for one and sometimes I can't even kill that person.

So, few questions about assassin gameplay.

  1. what to do when lane opponent is a poke mage that outfarms me?
  2. is APC (mage) or ADC more important target (okay, usually I go for that who mispositions but if they are both equally difficult to get to)
  3. how to know when it's good idea to dive?

  1. Roam. Roam often, assassins have insane roam potential.

  2. Whichever one is more fed.

  3. When they are low, you have a clear plan of escape. And you are sure they won't be getting backup. (If they suddenly act agressively at low health, there is a hugechance the jungler is coming to help. Either that or they are completely stupid)

I'm going to say this now, I don't like kat, and Akali. They have no poke, or any form of range damage. You can use the relatively safe poke from Leblanc, Zed, to harass the enemy and farm CS. Honestly I don't even really play Assassins. I had Ahri, until DFG got removed. Team fights arn't real good for Assassins, so I would recommend your assassin have some ability to perform some other task. (like split push.)

  1. As an Assassin, You should be able to either all in the enemy midlaner. Or if not, do enough damage to completely zone them away. If you can't do that, you may need Jungler help. Roaming only helps when you have already pushed your lane. otherwise, you will lose CS to the tower while it gets hammered down.

  2. depends on the champs, and the team comp. (as well as who's fed) A Lulu mid, would not be the primary damage source, another assassin also wouldn't be too disruptive to the team. (as long as you assassinate first) however a Kog'maw, an Oriana, or a ziggs, will do lots of damage to the entire team. Conversly is the enemy ADC a utility ADC? (sivir, ashe) or a monster who will mop up team fights. (jinx, Draven)

  3. firstly, can you kill your target? how much damage do you have? and how much health does the enemy have? Secondly, How likely are you to succeed? How far is your target from their allies, their turret, etc? What CC/Damage do they bring? thirdly, How like are you to survive the dive? how much health, escape tools you have? fourthly, how much will this assist your team snowball the fight? Does your team have followup? And Finally, What Objective can you get off of diving your opponent? (can your team do a dragon or take a tower?)
