I don't get this champion select...

Ally is first pick, autofilled support - he asks a few times if anyone wants supp and no one says anything. Eventually locks in Karma first pick support.

We pick our mid and ADC, enemy team so far has Katarina mid, Nocturne jg, Darius top.

Then our top laner picks Soraka.

I really don't get it... If you wanted to play a support champion, why not take the offer to go support? I looked him up after someone dodged - he has a 38% win rate on Soraka. He also plays some other support champions (Taric, Morgana, Brand, Braum, Leona) and in general has a HIGH WIN RATE ON THOSE CHAMPIONS...

I mean this was ranked. What is going through this guys head? It makes no sense to me - Soraka would be terrible in to Darius anyways...

All I can figure is that it was going to be karma top and Soraka support and they were acting like they don't know each other to encourage a dodge because they didn't want support. Which is pretty sneaky (and they were very convincing) if they were doing that...
