So my MMR took a wild ride this week
Do note, I don't actually think my MMR took a wild ride. But there were quirks this week I was not expecting.
I faced some golds as a Silver IV prior to becoming Silver III.
It was shocking but cool. I've had experiences where I faced diamonds and plats in my normals despite my teammates all being provisionals, unranked, or Bronze.
Now, I do feel honored the MMR system is pitting me against Golds, I also feel it's quite bad. Why am I facing Gold players as a Silver IV? Is the Gold getting compensated for constant defeats and facing lower ranked members to keep them safe? At Silver II and higher, it's understandable - but there should be a large enough population of silver players for me to face as I believe 60% of the player base is in bronze and silver. 20-25% is in Silver alone.
I'm just curious.
