How Should I Go About Learning Jungle?

Disclaimer: I'm a huge noob. I have less than 200 hundred games under my belt, if that. I'm summoner rank 28.

I'm not playing competitive until i get very comfortable with the game. As in i know where my mess ups are, how my team screwed up, how each champ builds, levels, all their skills, etc. So while i'm learning the game, i'm gonna stick to draft and the occasional blind. My friend insists that i play Amumu since he's an easy champ. However i really don't like playing him. He's extremely boring to me and i'd much rather play the more advanced champs that i like (Although they aren't necessarily good). When i started playing League, the three champs that caught my eye (Once i started maining jungle) were Nidalee, Evelynn, and Kindred. Nidalee because i love how her kit feels, Evelynn because i love her unique stealth concept, and Kindred because i absolutely love her design. That being said these champs are either very unique, not good right now, or too new to know much about them. Should i pay Amumu like my friend said for a hundred games or so (That's such a long time) or should i play the three champs i enjoy to learn the game?

TL:DR should i play champs i enjoy to learn the game or beginner champs? I only have a hundred games or so under my belt. Please no talk about who's meta, who's viable, and who sucks. I'm playing blind. If teemo can carry then so can Kindred, so don't.

If you want to learn Jungle as a role, then I recommend playing some of the beginner junglers. Udyr is a good choice. everything is point and click and his Tiger build is really good right now.

Hello! Im a noob as well! Ive been playing for a year. But theres still a lot to learn for me. But I feel if theres one lane id have to play to save my life it woupd be jungle.

I agree with Free Software that you should play an easier jungler first. Not sure about amumue but to me, the best possible starter jungler is the new warwick. He is really cheap and is really strong. His kit is pretty fun as well and i feel it teaches you the fundimentals of jungling.

He has an easy time clearing as his attack speed gets faster against enemies below 50% hp. And he has a built in heal so taking a potion isnt even needed. He also has a shield that doubles as fear so it keeps enemies off you.

His passive also lets him onow when enemy champs are low while increasing movement speed towards them, so it helps you learn map awareness easier. His build is pretty simple too. I play him as a hard hitting mobile tank that heals a lot.

The only thing really hard about warwick is knowing when to gank early or at all and once your there, what to do. But id try him out first. Couldnt stand jungle until i started playing him.

you should play champs you enjoy. every champion in the game has a counter of some kind and with patches every 2 weeks or so that stuff jumps all over the place. you're going to have a hard time anyway with being a new player due to the harassment you'll receive for being a beginner so why make it worse on yourself by playing what someone else wants you to play? if you're not sitting down every day and reading up on all of the stats in order to see what's changed as well as constantly trying to reach challenger in ranked then there's really not point in playing champs just because of the assumption that you can win with them easier. all champs require a bit of research to understand how their 4 abilities work and what items to buy in order to maximize that potential.

play what you have right now and then when a free to play week roster shows up with a character you like try them out for that entire week. if you enjoy playing them then continue to play them by adding them to your roster.

the power balance of champions has to do with whether or not your know how to fully utilize your champion and whether or not your opponent's know how to shut you down. this usually takes the form of team composition, pregame rune selection, and item paths during the match. dont worry about that stuff too much until you start trying to practice for ranked matches.

since you have to play draft in order to play ranked you'll need to learn how to play at least 3 champions that can earn enough xp and gold from the jungle, mid lane, top lane, support, and bottom lane in order to be a competitive choice against your opponent (who will likely be playing the "op of the week" champion)

A few things you need to be a good jungler:

  1. Good junglers really need to be able to fill a hole on the team or round out a comp. You need to have a range of champs so you have someone who can hard carry, assassinate, tank, initiate team fights, wave clear, CC, and have both an AP damage option and an AD damage option. You also need champs like Jarvin who you can first pick to do multiple of those things.
  2. Map awareness.
  3. Being able to control objectives.
  4. Knowing which lanes to gank and which to ignore.
  5. Knowing how to keep your farm up
