Nid top built tanky and was freaking impossible to catch so she just split pushed endlessly.
There is a pretty big difference between these characters tbh Nid top was a non-stop split pusher that could never be caught.
Even if you beat her in lane she would make games miserable. She was basically ranged 
with split pushing, while still being decent in team fights because how tanky she was.
he got a nerf though ... try to play against trundles with gasp...

There are similarities I'll give you that. But the difference is that Nidalee could nuke you from 1000 Unit aways, and then you couldn't even GET to her. You could try playing Syndra or Lux and sniping her with an Q + E, but even then you weren't guaranteed to get her.
Jayce is shorter ranged then Nidalee, even in ranged form. He's not that balanced, but he's nowhere near as bad as Nid Top.

But you make a good point.
Difference is you can punish Jayce for overextending, Nidalee is just way to mobile for that.
All transforming champs are balancing nightmares.

Yeah but at least (if 
was around when 
top was a thing) counters both and because his E allows him to dash up to or twice. And thanks to kled having super high single target damage, he's able to kill super easily after the followup E
Yeah honestly there's such a huge difference between the two... Jayce can actually lose lane, i don't really see how a skilled Nidalee who knows how to press all of her buttons could lose a game (when she was strong top)
if gnars cancer im sure they would love swaintop with tear/roa.
