Season 6 Advice for Climbing in Rank

TL;DR - Don't start right now. Wait at least 2 weeks preferably up to a month.

Some of you might call me crazy - I was a Diamond last season and have not played a single ranked match yet this season. Here's the thing though - everyone is getting demoted and the higher you are the harsher the penalty is. For those who don't know your MMR from last season is averaged with 1200 (Silver 4) and slightly changed based on your placement match. Because of this, everyone is going to get slightly lower than where they were expecting to be especially if your MMR was too low for your division.

Now why shouldn't you start right now? Well because it's happening to everyone! In my case for example as a Diamond I'm going to get placed into Plat. I know I have the playing skills of Diamond but I am aware that all other Diamonds are also going to be placed into Plat. I'm not unrealistic - I know that after my placement matches I will most likely lose as often as I will win. This will lower my MMR that has just reset and make it harder for me to climb and require more games to bring it up.

Now what do you get by waiting at least 2 weeks? Proper placements for everyone else. Yes, you'll still get demoted a whole rank in all likelihood unless you were silver and bronze where the penalty may be slightly less. The difference is, when you start climbing you'll face lower skilled level players and therefore will win more games (those players will actually be in the right division as they will have started before you).

It's not unlikely that you could get a double rank up! Personally I don't care if none of you take this advice, but I hope that you keep it in the back of your minds.

Sssh.

If everyone does this, we have to wait even longer.

I just wanna say the logic behind this is a double edged sword, because you would also have lower odds to have a high ranking hyper carry on your team if you waited. So you are right, but you are wrong, its always been a crap shoot, and even season 6 wont change your rng on the lucky teammates you receive. Gratz on Diamond, I wish you the best in your master endeavors.

This is some solid advice and isn't getting the viewership it might deserve. Might I recommend you piggy back on my thread and link a post to your thread there?

Feel free to link your thread there, it will likely catch some more attention then and I would love some help answering all these questions.

You will face higher skilled players that were put into your rank because of the reset, but you should have the same chance to have those higher skilled players on your team, no?

In other words (example): If you were plat last season and placed in silver. Wait for 2 weeks or so and you will be playing against true silvers rather than other plats placed in silver.

Eh.. it's a good strategy but I prefer just playing now which would allow me to play against players who I would've been playing against in plat while also giving me a 2 week head start on anybody using your aforementioned method

still doesn't make since... lets make coding that punishing peeps for doing their placement matches now. that's essentially what you and riot management is saying. oh wait for about a month to let all the chaos weed out then do your placements so its easier and you get placed in an ELO you don deserve yes real smart in my opinion that works well. thx but no thx Id rather just petition and bitch about the epicness riot does in all these placement matches

Too late for me. I'm already 2-6 if my memory serves correct. I've had someone feed and throw my matches literally on repeat. Just gonna grin and bear it just like last season. I'm fully prepared to land in Silver when this is done.

So i started my placements with silver 4 ish MMR? Then went 9-1 and ended up in Silver 5 :D?

I don't know how I feel about this, as I was in my gold 4 promos prior to reset but climbing steadily 65-70% wr, placed in s3 after going 8-2 (against s5 plats and golds) I'm still sitting at a 70% wr and climbing. I think it's easier to play with the higher ranked team mates, especially since I like to play tanks and set up plays.

I don't know where I'll end up, I struggled hard in s5 (was silver in s3 and s5) finally got gold in the preseason, suddenly something clicked and I just started winning more.

It is not the same system anymore for sure. In my case I went from D5 to P2 with 7 wins.

I would say that it could be a good thing to play now since playing against players better than you is the best way to improve. If you improve, you will easily reach a rank greater than your previous one afterward.
