Potential Fixes for Problems in Ranked Queue
Two weeks ago we were given feedback on the new champ select update and three priority problems were presented. Two of which are solved by enabling solo queue for ranked, instead of having dynamic queue enabled. So why hasn't dynamic ranked queue been disabled and replaced with solo ranked queue?
First being better match making, if everyone queues by themselves it is easier to match players with similar mmr together. Since you would not have to match a range of mmr's, so games would be a lot closer, skill level wise, and feel more competitive.
Second is queue timing, especially at higher elo. Though solo queue wouldn't entirely fix this problem, due to lack of total number of eligible players in that mmr range, it would help. Due to the part were the system wouldn't have to try to match group size with groups of similar size, nor would it have to try to find a group with a similar mmr range.
For the third problem, position select priority, I would like to make a suggestion to fixing that. My suggestion is this; If a player gets their secondary role for the next two games they would get their primary role, if they queue up with the same primary and secondary roles selected. This would force a 66% primary to 33% secondary minimum. And for people that select the fill position, as primary, for the next two games they can't play the same position, giving that option more of a variety. I believe this would also greatly help with the lack of support players as well, since picking support as your secondary role would no longer make you a support main. I know that I would be more willing to have support as my secondary if I would only have to play it one in every three games. And it is safe to suggest that there already is some type of tracking enabled on the server, since stats about the new system have been presented. So to implement this I would think the best solution would be a real time three game tracking system that only kicks in when either a player chooses fill, as their primary, or a player gets their secondary role.
Don't get me wrong, I have played a decent amount of dynamic queue, on my other account, and it was a great idea and I enjoy playing it, just not for ranked play. There is just something different about dynamic that makes it feel like normal queue that happens to have a ladder to climb attached to it, it just lacks the same competitive feel to it. And I have played both solo and in a group, up to five man but normally with a three man group. And maybe if there was some type of in game voip I would feel slightly different, but it just seems that if a pro team, lets say tsm or imt, can queue up and be matched up with a pug group of five, of lets say other pros just from different teams, it just doesn't seem like that game can really be called a evenly matched game, ever.
