Shen Rework Idea
Hey y'all, I'm not a Shen main, nor have I ever played him. I'm just a weeb who likes to think of crazy stuff, especially with League. I see that a lot of people really dislike the new Shen, especially after all the nerfs he received, and that got me thinking: How else could Shen have been reworked to satisfy the players? After viewing some comments and seeing what made old Shen feel so fun to play, I thought of how he can keep that play style while still offering interesting game play.
To start things off, his ult and dash have not changed: I think they are both a core part of his kit much like Ryze's Root is to his.
Now then, onto the changes. (Note: All Names and Numbers are Subject to Change)
Passive - Unwavering Persistence When Shen performs a basic attack, Shen gains a stack of Persistence granting him a shield from 17-30 (based on lvl)(+5% bonus health) damage for 4 seconds. As the shield holds, Shen can gain additional stacks with basic attacks for a maximum of 6. (9 - 5 second cooldown)
At the end of Shen's shield, his next basic attack is a Ki Strike which deals 8 - 76 (based on level)(+10% bonus health) bonus magic damage and restores 40/60/80 energy. Using Ki Strike with Small Katana grants 10% movement speed/Big Katana halves the cooldown of his passive.
Q - Daisho (Toggle Ability)(4/3.6/3.2/2.8/2.4 second cooldown)(Unable to Toggle after using W and goes on half its cooldown prior to using Vorpal Blade or Bashful Strike)
Small Katana - Shen's attack speed increases by 10/15/20/25/30%.
Big Katana - Shen's basic attack range is increased to 145 from 125 and deals 10% AD bonus damage_(Type of bonus damage subject to change) Each strike expends energy
W - Tactical Maneuvers
Shen tumbles a short distance(about half the distance of his dash) in any direction towards an enemy within range (Must be in combat to use against them). After using the ability, Shen is able to cast it again to perform another ability depending on which sword Shen is using.
Small Katana: Vorpal Blade - Shen throws a blade at the target enemy, dealing them magic damage and marking them for 5 seconds. Shen consumes the mark upon attacking allowing him and allied champions to heal over 3 seconds upon damaging the marked enemy, with the duration refreshing with subsequent damage.
Big Katana: Bashful Strike - Shen deals a heavy blow on the targeted enemy dealing bonus attack damage and slowing them for 3 seconds for 20/25/30/35/40%
Let's analyze the changes. First off, his Passive. It's a shield that grows with each auto attack and lasts for a short duration. The idea is that he has to stay in a fight in order to maintain his health bar. If he just waltz in and out his opponent will be able to put in extra damage on his health or rather the trade doesn't go well. You also have to be careful when you activate it on minions because your opponent can start trading on you while your passive is on cooldown.
His Q is practically Jinx's but melee. You wield Small Katana if you have not yet put a point in Q. This means that if you level up W first, you'll be able to use Vorpal Blade at the start of the match
Now, onto the more complicated ability, his W. It's a short Tumble similar to Vayne's though probably not as long. The reason why you can only use it towards an enemy is so that he doesn't abuse it as an escape, balance wise, his E should be enough. After using the ability, you get to activate it again to perform one of the two following abilities depending on which sword you were wielding during the tumble: Vorpal Blade or Bashful Strike. With this, you have two options: Do you use Vorpal Blade for the sustain heal and additional auto attacks for more shield, or do you use Bashful Strike to all in your opponent and rip his head off with the risk of him/them coming back at you? All this depends on your positioning and whether or not you can land your taunt or successfully auto your opponent. The reason why I made it so that he needs to attack the marked champion first for his Vorpal Blade heal to work on anyone else is so that he isn't able to sit back and sustain his teammates without the risk of danger.
Overall, his main goal is finding an opponent to tumble/taunt on and doing it successfully and finding opportunities to heal off his Vorpal Blade, just like before. If he fails, and isn't able to land consistent autos on his opponent from kiting, he won't be able to protect himself with shields. This goes for his laning phase and team fighting.
So what do you think Shen Mains? Would you have preferred this over his current rework or are there some things that you aren't comfortable with or would want changed?
