The removal of the classical urf mode is the reason behind the season 8 playing style.

I saw an interesting video about the matter :

When riot decided to remove the classical URF mode they did it because :

• each time urf was live tons of people and even old players that stopped went to play the game

• After this there was a negative effect : less players were connected after the end of the game mode during a long period of time.

• 2 reasons : normal games seemed slow for the players after playing urf people lost their skill brainwashed by the keyboard faceroll so they make pauses.

As riot Saw that people loved this game mode so much they decide to implement elements of urf in normal games to compensate....

those are : tons of damage, flashy plays, low cooldowns and short games.
