New Jungle First Impression
While overall the new jungle is much easier and quicker to clear once you get the T2 Jungle item, It would appear the first clear difficulty has actually gone up a bit, at least for Assassin-type junglers with limited built-in early sustain, like Noc and Eve... to the point where it almost feels as difficult as the jungle 2 seasons ago when only like 5 champions were viable picks.
I haven't tested and don't play much Kha'Zix, and it has been a long time since I jungled Wukong, but I imagine they also have the same problems (Though an argument could be made for Wukong finding a place as top, back in his jungling day he was a great jungler and I'd like to see him more viable again).
I realize a leash will help (though it can't be relied upon all the time, at least in solo queue) and that these champs might be outliers on the bell curve and might not be top tier picks, but it is important that they find a place in the Jungle considering that is where their only real strength lies early game, and they are pretty abysmal at laning - Though Mid Eve might be workable and Support Eve almost seems like it should be "a thing", neither really allows her to thrive in the role she was designed around.
-------Below is a quick breakdown of the most likely reason why and my experiences, and if you are TL:DNR inclined can probably be skipped-------------
This issue seems to stem mostly from the changes to Machete and Masteries.
The Machete being brought down in strength by effectively being split between two items, coupled with jungle masteries being randomly scattered among all the mastery trees. You can no longer heavily specialize into one tree, then get what you're looking for 5 points in to the damage or tank trees and have enough left over to grab a good mid-level mastery or two to round out your kit.
Now you have to specialize in a tree (damage in this case) then split your remaining points between cunning and resolve... which wouldn't be a huge issue, but 2/5 health regen or +bonus armor/MR are wasted stats for these champions who are constantly tanking damage with no break and not building defense until the 3rd item at the earliest, just to get to the 2 less monster damage (which is HUGE for early jungling), and it means you miss out on the big bonuses from the cunning tree of 5% bonus damage to low health targets and 5% heals on takedown.
And while Veteran Scars is a nice bonus that would add to a Jungle's ability to succeed on the first clear, to pick it up requires you to not have a keystone & penetration or to cripple your jungle in another way by not getting the bonus damage to monsters (which, like reduced damage from monsters, is huge in the early game).
Also, not being able to take boosted potions and extended jungle buff durations is another hit against a Jungler's ability to Masterize (like Itemize) effectively and efficiently.
With some finagling I was able to get Nocturne to a reasonable point with pathing and clearing, but it seems like there is no real wiggle room for Masteries and Runes. Either you are getting a reasonable first clear or you have to head back to base after 4 or maybe 5 camps.
AP assassin Eve I am still struggling to find the sweet spot for... I've found a barely workable path, but there is no room for error, and it doesn't get a full clear, it just gets enough for the T2 Jungle item and 2 pots, at which point the jungle becomes much easier to deal with, but puts Eve a level and boots behind the other jungler (especially if he is able to invade early).
I might be missing something and am open to suggestions on figuring out AP Eve in the new jungle environment, but barring a complete switch to more of a juggernaut/tank build (which is not AP and shouldn't be her role considering there are much better out there at Jungle-Jugging), I am having trouble seeing how roaming AP assassin Eve fits into the Jungle currently.
