How does one deal with Garen?

So...

First off, I'm trying as best I can to get out of bronze, so while I realize that someone who is well above my rank might laugh at this question, for me its kind of vital.

Building nothing but tank (aside from his black cleaver) this Garen wrecked lane, then led the push on every tower we had.

I do realize that a strong portion of why we lost was because of Baron. But we couldn't get near the pit because of Garen. In the end, we lost three inhibitors while being 6k gold up on our opponent, and lost a couple minutes later.

So I guess the overall question? How do I prevent this. Or should I just give up and beg for a Garen ban each game?

These Juggernauts are a real pain in the ass for everyone. Fortunately they can be kited and that is their weakness. You have to keep a distance, cc them, and poke them down. Garen has a lot of regen so in lane this can be hard and I'm not expert on top lane so I cant give you many tips there. In a team fight you just have to identify your role in the fight and what you need to do. If you're a damage dealer you're probably easily killed, you want to keep a distance from garen and generally ignore him until you kill their damage dealers. He might zone you, but he can't zone an entire team. If you're someone tanky, try to keep this guy off your backline, just keep on him like it's your job. That's the best way to deal with the juggs. Distance, positioning, kiting.
