If this game was balanced at all

There would be no need for bans. The fact that there are bans in this game is riot's way of saying "there is no such thing as balance and there never will be." also, "We definitely sell power."

Just look at champs like riven and xin zhao. Riven has been at the peak of viability pretty much since release, while xin zhao is still not viable even after his recent rework and buffs. They just release juggernaut patch and make him completely unplayable again.

Also, lets look at IMPORTANT stats for worlds. Sure, 70 someodd champs have been picked ONE time. In reality though, Elise and skarner are the only realistic jungle picks, and half the reason there have been 70 champions picked is because people have banned out the current top tier champions in that game, thus FORCING someone to play something new. Its not so much a statement of how balanced their game is as much as it is a window into how predictable this game is.

Elise isnt banned? picked 1st round every time, except by teams that don't know whats going on. Kalista isnt picked or banned? picked 1st or 2nd round every time. I can't be the only one who sees this pattern.

Having 78 champions played in worlds doesnt mean anything when they are only picked because elise and reksai have been banned that game. How about we see the stats on reksai and elise in worlds?? banned or picked at least 95% of the time? yep. but those champs are both totally healthy because u can ban them right? Pretty easy to see how you reached 78 champs played. But in reality, they would have just picked elise or reksai if they had not been banned because those champions are without a doubt the best in the jungle right now. balance team is a joke and hopes noone notices stuff like this.

while xin zhao is still not viable even after his recent rework and buffs.

did you know xin at one point was by far the most op champion in the game?

All i'm saying is if we are only going to have so many top tier champions (like it is right now) how about in ranked play those are the only playable champions to reduce "trolling" by picking something that is not currently viable. Seems only fair to me. If riot wants to dictate which champs are playable and which are not, why cant they just tell me which champions im allowed to play so that i can avoid trolling my team mates by playing for example Ezreal who has not seen play in worlds this year and wont because he was gutted and is not intended to be played.

Even if the game was in a perfect state of balance, one method would be preferred over another, making those who counter that method more valuable and/or ban-worthy.

You know there is this great balanced game where we put 10 coins on a table, and each turn we can each pick up a single coin. The person who takes the last coin wins.

It's not very fun though, so Riot isn't trying to create that game, they are trying to create a creatively un-balanced game with options and counter play.

imo - while the power grade of "OP" champs has gone up, the game is generally in a well balanced state.

in an ideal state, league would have a series of champions that are easy to pick up without much complexity, and these types of champions (warwick for example) are pretty easy to outplay in higher elo or even sometimes just low elo ranked (people need to learn the game first) and while these champs COULD be buffed to the point that they can compete with the complex champions on the higher elo, this would very much unbalance them on the low elo and unranked matches.

so in an ideal state, there are champions that are stronger as people are learning, a second set of champions that are stronger in low-elo, and another bunch of champions that are competitive in high-elo.

in order to meet this state, it takes effort to balance things out correctly. and in a game with over a hundred champions and many runes and masteries and items to balance as well, it's practically a guarantee that there are gonna be times of power for certain champions and times of weakness for certain champions. it's a natural occurance.

and even if there was a perfectly balance set of "newbie champs, solo queue champs, and lcs champs" there would still be a lot to gain from bans, such as banning out your counterpicks. and for example, not all champs will have strength in the same area, so even in a balanced champion pool there will be a best early-game jungler, while other junglers are mid-game and others late, and there is strategy in banning out perhaps the late scalers or the early gamers or the midgamers. and in lcs? there is strategy in knowing your opposing team's strengths as players and banning what they're strength is. or, there are certain team comps that are hard to beat, and banning out a key element of that comp (kog maw for example, or janna) is strategically meaningful
