Support is easy?

Ever since I started playing league of legends I've enjoyed playing the support role--especially when I have a chance to play thresh. All of my friends were placed around silver 5/bronze 1 when they completed their provisional games, and I thought I would get around the same, if not a lower rank. Shortly after I reached level 30 I played a few ranked games. These games did not go very well. The first game was close, but we ended up losing, and in the second game our team had no communication. After these games I became more cautious of ranked; I did not want to get stuck in bronze 5. I came in to the third game with a positive attitude. I let my team know that I main'd support, but asked them if anyone wanted support before I locked in. I stayed positive throughout the whole game, making sure everyone was doing fine in their lane and asking them if they needed any help. The game ended in a victory, and I ended up going 6-4 in my provisional games, putting me in silver 2, ahead of every one of my friends. I didn't brag at all, but when someone would mention my rank in our teamspeak, I would always hear: "It's only because he mains support. He just got good teammates who carried him." or "Support is easy, if he ever is forced to play any other role, he will lose for sure." For the record, I did play jungle one game, and the other team forfeited at 20. After comments like these I would normally say something like this: "During my placements I got my AD Carries several kills which led us to victory." or "I spaced my games out unlike you guys. You all played every game in one night, and I spread my games out over 2 weeks. I only played when I was confident I could win." My friends also flame a lot, and I'm sure this was a factor in their placement in bronze/low silver. I'm kind of getting annoyed of the hate towards my favorite role and just wanted to vent a bit. But I am also wondering if anyone else has encountered this problem. Is it just jealousy? Or is support truly so easy that I can be several ranks ahead of my actual skill? Please share your thoughts if you cared enough to read all of this, and thank you for your replies.

EDIT: I'd also like to add that when my friends realize I am better than them, they say it is because I am Korean. The only reason professional Korean players are better than NA and EU players is because they practice harder, better, and more efficiently than them; It has nothing to do with their race.

this is why you are winning your games

People don't appreciate supports enough.

When my team's Thresh has made multiple picks, saved numerous lives, and has 90% kill participation, I call him out on it, playing support might be easy but carrying your team as support is extremely hard. Good job and keep it up.

I actually have a similar case.

I started playing with friends who introduced me to the game. One of them started playing during Season 3 and the rest started during early Season 4 I believe. I did extremely well with them and played almost exclusively Support (Sona , Janna ,Blitzcrank , Lulu ) from level 1 - 30. I actually remember asking them "Can I be a healer?" and they told me to play Soraka who then was my first champion. Around level 28 one of them who was/is still low Silver made a comment on me only playing Support because I was bad, and saying that I would definitely get Bronze. After I hit level 30 I almost immediately started Ranked, going 3-10 but getting Silver 5.

In the end I quickly grew out of playing with them considering that the friend who actually was really rude to me for playing Support and saying I was only doing it because I sucked, is actually pretty bad and has relatively no knowledge of the game or any signs of improvement. He has a terrible attitude towards the game that prevents him from ever climbing. He was actually placed in Bronze this Season but a friend carried him to Silver 5. He's actually made a couple of comments that surely confirmed he is jealous as well.

I don't think that Support is just an easy role and people who play it do it because they need to be carried and can't fulfill any other role. In fact I'd probably say Support is one of the harder roles in the game, you have to memorize so much considering the lane is a 2v2 and you have to master an entirely new aspect of the game.

As for the friend who was really rude to me, he almost exclusively played every single role but Support, now when he does Support he fails and does terrible. He has no clue how to engage, disengage, build, roam, or peel as any Support in the game and so many other things he's clueless about. All he does is build full AP and sit there until a teamfight happens. If Support is really so easy, I'd expect him to actually be able to do anything productive in the game.

It's really annoying to have people like this on League that think that Support is such an easy role, yet when they try to do it they absolutely fail in every situation they could possibly fail at. Currently I'm Silver 2 with maining Support in Ranked and ever since I started playing Ranked again I almost have a 100% winrate, meanwhile my friend who said Support is just a role that gets carried and requires no skill, is barely Silver 5 after getting carried by my other friend out of Bronze and still has absolutely no idea how to play Support.

support has its things, but its easier in many areas:

**complicated part: ** warding essential parts, keeping an eye on your teammates (for heals, saves, etc.), itemization while having a low income.

easy part: you don't have to CS, you are in a duo lane, your combat role is secondary, being behind doesn't have a big impact in your performance.

Support is not easy. I'm not saying it's the hardest role in the game (personally I feel that's jungler) but it's definitely as important and as influential as other roles in my opinion. I've always shared the view that the ADC is kind of the heart of the team, and the support's job early is to keep them safe when they're the weakest and if possible get them ahead. That's tremendously important to the entire team.

As the game goes on, the support has the option to assist other lanes with ganks, secure neutral objectives, provide vision (which is the ultimate boost that isn't recorded or often recognized by teams), and often provide team fight engages. I don't see how anyone but the least experienced can say that that's not important or crucial to the team.

With friends like those, who needs friends?

Support is an easy role mechanically, but I rate it as the second-hardest role to actually do well in, right behind Jungle. And I rate both of them as being extremely difficult for the same reason: You mainly depend on other people. Top, mid, and to a lesser extent ADC are in their own little worlds early-game. They can focus entirely on their own personal skill and if they are better they will win. Support and Jungle do not have this luxury. For them to do their job well they need to read, predict, and depend upon something they have no direct control over, their teammate(s). They don't only need to focus on their enemies but also their allies, figure out people they've never played with before, and keep them out of trouble so the enemy doesn't get ahead.

Imagine how much harder a game like Pokemon would be if you had to guess what your Pokemon was going to do and nudge it into making certain decisions instead of being able to tell it 'Use this.' That's the support's job in a nutshell. And that's what makes it hard.

I feel like I'm the only ADC main in the lower elos who knows now matter how good or bad I play I can't win lane without a good support.

ShuffledPancake8/14/2015, 3:48:26 AM2 votes

Im pretty sure it isnt jealousy BUT, Supporting isnt as hard as alot of people try say it is when they get called out. Im a Silver 5 Zilean main and it's tough, but that's my choice. i do not care to climb but i do not play like that.

Maratsune8/14/2015, 8:19:51 PM2 votes

I play a lot of support. I'd say that if I'm playing Summoner's Rift, 9/10 times I'm playing support.

Comparatively, I feel 100% unconfident in ADC. And yet very recently I was made to play ADC- I picked Jinx. Usually I do okay, not feeding too much, but definitely not winning lane. My support tho. They were an Alistar, and they just delivered kills to me on a silver platter. Seriously, they'd go in, and it was double kill after double kill. They carried me to the point where I was probably terrifying for the other team, even though I'm a waddling ball of inexperience as ADC. I thought about my own performance as a support- the only time I do that well is maybe, MAYBE if I'm playing Sona. But usually, it's nothing like that. The only reason people view support as 'easy' is because if you screw up or under-perform, as long as you're warding nobody usually pinpoints as that being the reason you lost lane. But to do the job of support well, to the point where being the ADC is as easy as pew pew auto attacking? That takes skill.

'Support' is the most complex role, so no, it's not 'easy'. Your friends are just bitches. Anyway, ranked is not suitable for those who can only play a single role. I suggest you go back to normals for a little bit and try every role. By doing that you'll be able to see things from a different perspective, you'll learn champion's ups and downs so when you'll be against that champ you played it'll be muhc easier to decide what to do. And most important, have fun. ;)

alternatively, you could get a item 2043 if you can defend it

Upgrade your trinket.

No idea how incredibly gold efficient that thing is.. Like by level 10-12 if you haven't upgraded it, no matter what you're buying instead of spending the 250gold on it, you're throwing gold value out the window.

Also...get new friends? Sorry but they sound like dicks. Support isn't 'easier.' Yes some supports like Sona take very little mechanical skill (she's pretty much all item management and general knowledge everyone should have about the game regardless of role, like were to ward, when to fight and when to not, etc) But there's champions of any roll that you can say that about. Top: Garen DrMundoMordekaiser Mid: Anivia Annie Heimerdinger Katarina Jungle: Amumu Malphite MasterYi Tryndamere ADC: Ashe MissFortune Sivir Support: Morgana Sona Soraka Taric Leona

I mean through my personal opinion, even though I main mid.. most of the champions that can even play support are easy, but the role itself is hard [sg-zephyr]

You have to have VERY good map awareness (Estimation looking at the map about every 2 seconds) as well as having objective control and just placing ward where ever and saying “Uh I warded.” No you have to ward the objectives.. You have to make sure 4 people don’t die late game peel for them and it’s even harder to ward when your behind.. Don't forget roaming and map pressure as well.. So I’d say the role is hard but depends on what champion you play.. that’s what make people think the role is easy.. supports that have skillshots that go though certain things makes the champion easier to play like Lux W and Leona E and such. Not ONLY that even if your team is ahead warding is important one baron or elder can shift the game around. Hope I could help ya!

My thoughts. We don't need another appreciate the support role thread, I admire having a good support on our team we can't win without them, but in comparison to the other roles I'd argue support being the easiest one to play.

When it comes to ranking up, it's widely regarded that maining support IS the easiest way to rank up.

ADC being second easiest, but not the most considering every meta revolves around them being the sole target for everyone.

fractalfantasies8/14/2015, 8:36:41 PM1 votes

ADC main here.

I can tell the supp mains from the people who were just last pick.

Support looks easy if like the people who don't want to be playing support you just stand there doing nothing, but to actually make plays, peel, ward sweep, synergise with your ADC, very tough indeed. Being a supp main is like being a good goal keeper hardly anyone wants to be in goal, but if you're good and you like it, you can carry a whole load of mediocre players just be being there to rescue them from their mistakes.
