Twisted Fate's "Pick A Card", why is the start of the rotation random?
A few days ago I started playing Twisted Fate and I rly love that guy, however his W just feels weird to me. At first I thought I'd get used to it but the more I know him the less I like the fact that the cycle starts at a random card. The idea of this whole system, being random and then switching between the colors, should propably give a "searching the deck for a specific card"-feeling (just like a gambler would do, especially a crook) and I normally like it when those things get implemented in the gameplay, but here it just limitates his options in a way which isn't favorable for Twisted Fate, his enemies and even hurts his concept of being a crook.
For example, if I have an enemy pretty close to me, maybe a few steps away from my auto attack range, and I want to stun and kill him it would only make sense to walk up to him and throw a golden card. However let's say I face a Katarina who could kill me pretty fast too if I don't stun her, so walking in also brings me into a dangerous position. I can't wait in the back and pick the card I like cause once Kata sees my card rotation she won't let me get in range until I threw my golden card or picked a red or blue one. So I have to use W while I walk up to her, and if it starts at the end of a redcard or at a golden card it will propably work, I stun her faster than she can react and get the kill, if it picks a blue one however chances are high she will kill me before I get my stun out.
This creates situations in which the enemy doesn't engage cause it could be that Twisted Fate has the card he needs (mostly the golden card) in a split of a second and twisted fate doesn't engage cause it could be that he has to sit through an entire rotation until he gets the card he needs. It just depends too much on luck if he gets the card he wants in that situation which doesn't feel like a crook to me at all but rather like a completely honest guy who plays the hand he gets. He is called "The Card Master", so giving him a bit more control about the cards he throws only makes sense to me.
So I thought about (text got way too long, wanted to get to this point ages ago, sorry) something like picking the card with Q, W and E after he pressed W the first time to pick the color he wants. This way he can engage in situations he knows he can handle and plan his next steps way more reliable while the enemies can also estimate their chances better cause they know how long it takes him to pick the card he wants. Maybe adding like a 0.25 or 0.5 seconds on which the "3 cards symbol" is already shown on his head window until he can pick the card after he activated W so nervous new Twisted Fate player don't pick a red card on accident by double pressing and enemies have a little moment in before he can throw the card he wants. The way I see it is that this would make his plays much more reliable overall and if it turns out to too strong this way it is just as strong as a Twisted Fate right now with a bit luck on his W, and nothing should be overpowered cause of luck anyway, not?
Only problem I see in this method is that it would create a time window in which he can't use his Q, but that shouldn't be a big problem if they just throw it before. It would even make sense thematically (not being able to throw three cards from his deck while he looks into it to pick a specific one) so I don't think of it as a big deal and even if that would be a big nerf to him cause of the Q disable and time he has to wait for sure to pick his card, or make him too strong cause of how fast he can throw every card now, I think it would still be much easier to balance this way than with the system we have right now.
