Recent Malzahar Changes
The changes that Riot did OVERALL to Malzahar confuses me. Previous changes made sense in that they were for Malzahar mid (the only lane in which he was consistently played back then). However, Riot did a change in patch 7.3 that is supposedly targetted at Malz Support yet it negatively affects Malzahar mid and top (as intended) as well. The only reason why this confuses me is that when Riot typically nerfs a champion's specific role, they typically avoid nerfing the champion overall. For instance, they nerfed Kindred's sustain but kept the gameplay overall the same. Riot also mentioned "The reflex check is exciting in theory, but while mid Malz might give up lane pressure to use W creatively, support Malz doesn’t make the same sacrifice" where they show somewhat indicatively - perhaps only to me? - that mid pressure is lost for 20 seconds at earlier levels to about 10-15 seconds depending on rank and cdr. Now, it is difficult to block even slower travelling skillshots and by, adding a spawn time and a cooldown between casts, makes it impossible to block a Lux Q or other abilities with that interaction in the mid lane. It seems like this change had a lot of seemingly unintended consequences all of which makes me feel a bit intrigued, as a Malzahar player. It seems to me as if mid lane Malz will be more affected by this nerf than support Malzahar. Now, I understand the secondary issue they had being "Melees can’t fight or run from Voidlings without taking heavy damage; this becomes far more painful in botlane (and toplane, for you theorycrafters) where the trip back to your turret is significantly longer" and the movement speed nerf past 600 distance (50 more units than the auto range) makes a fair bit of sense.
