What is the matchmaking system

Just got paired up against a plat 3 in a silver lobby. Checked ranks on my team, highest was a s5 (me) and lowest was b3, while lowest on their team was b4 and highest was plat 3. What the hell is this matchmaking? Proof: http://imgur.com/1TOIV4n
