How about giving Supports a customizable Summoner Spell like Smite and removing Sightstone?

Hi all :)

Junglers do have a Summoner Spell, which allows them to build in some directions yet they "only" have 1 "Jungle Core"- Item.

Supports instead have 2 "Core-Items": One of the three Support Items and a Sightstone.

My Idea here would be to remove Sightstone rather than to add a variety of it and instead giving the Ability of the Sightstone to one of your Summoner Spells. But you have to upgrade your Support Item first.

So here is an Example:

I go Exhaust and Flash with item 3092. On my First back I upgrade item 3092 to item 3098.

item 3098 / item 3097 / item 3096 NEW PASSIVE: Stores up to 2 Wards. Your Summonerspell, which is neither summoner 4; summoner 11 or summoner 6, will be able to place a Ward when used on the ground, which will last for 3 Minuts. At Level 7 and 9: Increases the maximum possible stored Wards by 1.

item 3092 / item 3401 / item 3069

Addionally increaes the Wards Store Limit by 1.

This would allow Supports to have 1 more Itemslot and be less restricted by having to buy 2 Core Items.

Second Idea:

A Reworked {{summoner:2}} (Now placing Wards). Upgrading the Support Item the first time grants {{summoner:2}} the effect of either summoner 3 or summoner 14 or summoner 7 maybe even summoner 12 or a tweaked summoner 1 / summoner 21 if targeting a Champion. (Upgrading Support Items increases Wards Store Amount/Duration)

Third Idea:

** Reworking Trinkets [for Supports].** Possessing a Support Item might allow you to buy special Trinkets. Or Trinkets gets empowered by the Utility Master tree. Eg. Bonus of Intelligence CDR for active Items is doubed (14% / 28%/ 40%) for Trinkets. Rarely used Vampirism in the Support tree maybe reworked to allow the item 3340 (/ item 3342 ) Trinket to have +1/ 2/ 3 Ward Charges. Vampirism would "go into" a reworked Strenght of the Spirit [both swaps places] which gives Supports true Sight after Placing a Ward.

Thoughts?

If you are looking to imitate the Jungler role, then these items (item 3303 item 3301 item 3302 ) would not be available unless you have a certain summoner spell. Since the sightstone is the item you wish to replace, the most sensible summoner spell to upgrade is {{summoner:2}}.

The second iteration of each item would incorporate Sightstone's effects.

The final iteration of each item would incorporate Ruby Sightstone's effects.

Frees an item slot at the expense of the more commonly used summoners Exhaust or Flash.

+1 for indirect LeeSin Katarina Jax nerfs

What if Sight stone had an enhancement that modded the summoner spells similar to distortion enhancements? If you upgrade your sight stone, you may get one of these effects.

summoner 7 ---> now removes grievous wounds.

summoner 3 ----> Now steals champion movement speed.

{{summoner:2}} -----> Now grants true sight.

summoner 14 --->Not sure about this one. Maybe a mana burn?

summoner 13 ---> now grants a tiny shield, based on maximum mana. (even less sure about this one.)

But ultimately, the Summoner spells don't define the support role the same way as Jungler do. But If we want supports to be more summoner reliant, this might be the way to go.

The thought of people actually upgrading item 3303 enjoys me.

Or 3rd idea Buying any of the 3 support items unlocks an extra slot specific for wards

We need to get rid of sight stone and focus on upgrade trinkets. Make it so that the ward trinket can place more wards at once, but spread it across the team. The support is not a ward bot, and shouldn't be a ward bot. Vision is EVERYONE'S game.

Just take away sight stone and balance vision so that you can get 2 wards at a time per upgraded stealth trinket.

I do hate buying sightstones, but I think Riot tried to circumvent getting rid of sightstone by adding trinkets.

It would be nice to have an exhaust or something that is upgrade-able. Perhaps naming a new spell, and it interacts differently depending on who it is cast on. Hell, add sightstone in it and make it accessible by using letter T or whatever number lies next on the keyboard (7 or 8?) to access the sight part of it. Would be good in case you try to buff an ally or exhaust an opponent, and you instead throw down a useless ward in the middle of a fight. Make them separate but the same.

100% will not happen. Coding nightmare, especially with a 5-year old engine.

Machete upgrade works because ALL jungler uses smite. Do all support use the same spell?

Very interesting idea... but I love exhaust :(

So, while I am a huge supporter of giving supports a buff, of some sort there is an inherent problem that removing sightstone would be a major nerf to Katarina LeeSin and Jax While nerfing these champs might not be bad, it would also hurt the team, in that some junglers do take a sightstone, and they do ward. I propose a bit of a similar idea. Taking one of the support items (item 3301 item 3302 item 3303 ) gives you an ability to build into a buffed ruby sightstone that others wouldn't have the ability to buy.

So I propose keep sightstone and ruby sightstone as they are, but add a buffed ruby sightstone that only supports could buy, potentially have several buffed ruby sightstones mimicking the jungle items.

I like the idea and it seems close to good. What about just reworking {{summoner:2}} into the "must buy support item" like smite.

Having {{summoner:2}} allows you to buy {new item}. Said item would be like item 3711 item 3713 item 3715 item 3706 and each would have a given effect when used. The support item 1039 could be the new gold income item with its own passive.

Overall im thinking: (Examples)

{{summoner:2}} Is now a ward summoner. Having this equipped allows you to buy support item 1039 which upgrades into : item 3711 a health regen aura item 3713 an attack damage aura item 3715 armor/ magic resist item 3706 % tenacity

Upon buying one of the above your {{summoner:2}} now carries 2 wards

After that you can upgrade to:

item 3709 item 3717 item 3721 item 3725 a shield + speed boost item 3710 item 3718 item 3722 item 3726 a heal + mana item 3708 item 3716 item 3720 item 3724 an exhaust type spell item 3707 item 3714 item 3719 item 3723 a spell shield

Buying one of these gives your {{summoner:2}} 3 ward charges

Sounds cool

Most of this will not work:

  • Special summoning spell: Won't dolle the sightstone issue and the only thing it will change is the combat effectiveness from supports mostly between level 1, 2 & 3. Removing the option of having that combat spell will make the early game really boring in solo Q. If someone benefit from it than it would be lcs but I feel this Won't solve the problem their. It just will give laners a chance to abuse another item.
  • Special trinkets is an idea that has been suggested for a while but the problem is that you basicly need to give it the power to remove as the ability to places wards what's almost impossible without schifting some of the power into another slot

Right now you basicly have to remove or rebrand the item actives if you want to shaken things up a bit. Recently I was thinking about involving boots or something.

Supports instead have 2 "Core-Items": One of the three Support Items and a Sightstone.

Not always. item 3069 can be replaced with item 3800 , and there are other nice AP options over item 3092. The only one that is actually very good and a contender for a spot is item 3401.

Sighstone is definitely core, and could use more options (such as a ap or cooldown or mana variant) and refresh ward charges while roaming. Still think that regardless of changes, shouldn't be forced to build Tier 2 sightstone, but rather can build it late game when your build is mostly complete.
