Bring back pre-reworked versions of champs as an option
League of Legends has encountered a lot of negative feedback in regard to its continuous rate of change (see video by The Act Man in the link) causing many current players to leave, driving away returning players, and adding increased complexity to the game for new players. With this change, whole strategies, play styles, and the likability of the game have been altered. I have not seen any posts current or recent that are looking to reverse some of the change or the damage that was done in this process in regard to pre-reworked champion sets.
What I hope to propose is a return option of the old pre-reworked champion toolkits.
Yes, I understand doing this would add a little more complexity to the game for newer players, but I believe the benefits would outweigh the consequences.
First of all, many players that have been with the League of Legends community have played with old champion sets before (some actually prefer the pre-rework champions). This re-introduction may be found to be popular with experienced players, as they find a sense of nostalgia upon playing their old favorites. It would also generate a sense of interest in new players interested in learning more about a specific champion and expanding their play style.
Second, it would help reverse the rate of change that has driven away so many league players. Upon hearing that the champion older players are familiar with and practiced in have returned, players may return to the league community.
Third, this new introduction would allow for RIOT to create future new versions of champs without introducing an entirely new champion. This would allow for increased flexibility in the position a champ could take and not be confined to the META.
I propose that the old champion toolkits are reintroduced under a name that redefines them as that specific set. Take, for example, reworked Nunu: the new champion’s name is Nunu and Willump, while the old pre-rework could be known as simply Nunu. This could be an option or a (reworked) sign In parentheses.
Thankfully, RIOT has noticed the harmful effects of an increased rate of change and they are currently working to it slow down. If they were to re-introduce older sets of champions, there’s a hope that some of the damage done may be reversed.
My proposal here is in no way fully complete. I would definitely appreciate constructive feedback from the League community on this proposal and further listings of benefits or harms this might cause.
*Update:
It is widely agreed that bringing back old tool sets of certain champions (
due to op ult, one of the
sets due to infinite rune prison and multitude of reworks) would not and should not be possible.
However, there is strong support to bring back old sets of fully reworked champions. Some of these include first version of

Do note that this would not be removing the current toolset of that champion, but merely introducing another option that allows players to expand their play style with a particular champion.
There is always the option for a different game mode that allows players to play previous versions of reworked champions as well.
