Bring back pre-reworked versions of champs as an option

League of Legends has encountered a lot of negative feedback in regard to its continuous rate of change (see video by The Act Man in the link) causing many current players to leave, driving away returning players, and adding increased complexity to the game for new players. With this change, whole strategies, play styles, and the likability of the game have been altered. I have not seen any posts current or recent that are looking to reverse some of the change or the damage that was done in this process in regard to pre-reworked champion sets.

What I hope to propose is a return option of the old pre-reworked champion toolkits.

Yes, I understand doing this would add a little more complexity to the game for newer players, but I believe the benefits would outweigh the consequences.

First of all, many players that have been with the League of Legends community have played with old champion sets before (some actually prefer the pre-rework champions). This re-introduction may be found to be popular with experienced players, as they find a sense of nostalgia upon playing their old favorites. It would also generate a sense of interest in new players interested in learning more about a specific champion and expanding their play style.

Second, it would help reverse the rate of change that has driven away so many league players. Upon hearing that the champion older players are familiar with and practiced in have returned, players may return to the league community.

Third, this new introduction would allow for RIOT to create future new versions of champs without introducing an entirely new champion. This would allow for increased flexibility in the position a champ could take and not be confined to the META.

I propose that the old champion toolkits are reintroduced under a name that redefines them as that specific set. Take, for example, reworked Nunu: the new champion’s name is Nunu and Willump, while the old pre-rework could be known as simply Nunu. This could be an option or a (reworked) sign In parentheses.

Thankfully, RIOT has noticed the harmful effects of an increased rate of change and they are currently working to it slow down. If they were to re-introduce older sets of champions, there’s a hope that some of the damage done may be reversed.

My proposal here is in no way fully complete. I would definitely appreciate constructive feedback from the League community on this proposal and further listings of benefits or harms this might cause.

*Update: It is widely agreed that bringing back old tool sets of certain champions (Poppy due to op ult, one of the Ryze sets due to infinite rune prison and multitude of reworks) would not and should not be possible.

However, there is strong support to bring back old sets of fully reworked champions. Some of these include first version of Skarner , Galio ,Aatrox ,Katarina , Leblanc , Taric ,Soraka , Sejuani ,Malzahar ,Nunu ,Shen ,Zac Zilean . These are generally agreed upon and, unless presented with a solid reason why they should not be reintroduced, would be viable options for regular play. Do note that this would not be removing the current toolset of that champion, but merely introducing another option that allows players to expand their play style with a particular champion.

There is always the option for a different game mode that allows players to play previous versions of reworked champions as well.

Ok lets be real here, yes most people here would love to play some pre-reworked champions however there are quite a few that should never come back.

Where would you even draw a line with what reworked champs get brought back. Only those who had a full rework like Poppy, Aatrox, Sion or Evelynn? All 4 of those were nerfed to oblivion for a long period of time because of how stupid their kits were. Do we allow minor reworks like Master Yi or Tristana? AP Yi one shots your entire team whilst being invulnerable in alpha strike and getting instant resets not to mention his Meditate healing. AP trist spams her point and click E DoT on you in lane for 1/3rd of your hp then one shots you at 1 item. She burst harder then old leblanc.

How about those with multiple reworks like Ryze or Skarner. Do we bring back all of them or just 1?

As much as i would love to see some reworked champs come back there are way more i would prefer to stay gone forever. Theres a reason they rework champions and whilst i can understand preferring older iterations of a champion, heck id much prefer old skarner or Sej, a lot of the old iterations of champions should never come back.

Old champions were "removed" for a reason.

They should not, and will not, be brought back.

No, they were reworked for a reason. It's a shame that some people lose their favorite champion, but thats just the cost of changing something, that a niche of people like. Bringing them back, reintroduces their problems. There's a well and proper reason why I hate older champs more than I do newer champs.

Old Soraka could help bring diversity to bot lane by bringing mana sustain to mage, if they don't like her startcall, they could swap it with the reworked star call.

New Soraka is kind of dull to me because her role tied to HP healing way too much.

That video is prettymuch on point on how i feel about league...also, it's quite wiered hereing ghostgrawler talking about all the issues that heavy changes, and easpecially changes for the sake of change, do have, and yet they just do that all the time...like wtf, you know it sucks, so then why do you do it?

As for getting the old champs back: YES PLEASE!

Sure, some designs were unhealthy and needed change, but to be honest, so are many of the new ones(choughZoe chough), and many were perfectly fine (item 3070Gallio item 3070 ) , others could have done with small changes(just changeing yi's ult to partial resets instead off full would have fixed the issue with ap-yi), and others have basically all the same issues in a new fancy lookKatarina...

not possible. would cause way too many balance issues in an already shitly balanced game. champs like pre rework poppy cant ever be balanced without a kit redesign, hence rework.

Maybe in custom games, but something like this has no place in normal/ranked games.

Those designs were removed for a reason. Maybe it wasn't for a good reason (Skarner, Aatrox, Galio), but a reason nonetheless.

Soraka, Shen, Sejuani, Zac, and Taric please. :)

I would actually like that because I really miss my old Galio :( He was fine as he was. Ugh.

Honestly they should just make a separate (permanent) queue where you can play older versions of champions. Riot has the ability and funding to do this so why not do it?

The Trundle Rework that just turned him into yet another Freljord Ice champ was unnecessary and a mistake.

I wish league allowed modded game modes like dota does, so the community could revert the game themselves.
