Playing as Lux...

Ok, so this is going to sound really pathetic, but I dont care, i need the help.

I started playing league a year ago and my first champ i picked freely was lux. Ive been using her since. And in that 1 year window. Ive only improved on her a little bit. I still suck horribly with her. My main issue is landing her skill shots and dealing with a lot of her match ups.

For starters all her combos (or at least, all the ones that will actually kill) start with landing her Q. However, the only time ill ever really successfully land it is if im running away and they are right on top of me. Otherwise, i either over guess, it hits 2 minions, or they just dodge it when i aim at them. Ive also tried hidding in river and getting them. But i still normally miss it. It does land sometimes, but at this point im probably too far behind where i wont do enough damage and in turn end up getting bursted.

W is pretty easy, but i miss that at times as well.

E is really easy to land due to its size. So there isnt no problems there.

And R ill normally miss if i just throw it out without any roots, but thats obvious.

So basically my biggest problem is landing Q. I was wondering if anyone could explain some tips on how they learned to land it, or skill shots in general. Also the best way to practice. Id love to learn lux, but at this rate its less fun and more a chore.

Thanks in advance

Use E first, to slow and zone your target. If they are caught within the E they will be slowed so heavily they are forced to dash or flash to escape your Q. Keep your E up until you've procced your passive from the Q. Or if you caught something squishy, use Q and R right after each other.

Try and predict where the enemy is going and cast it there. Also try and make sure that there's nothing in the way. If they are moving too fast and Lux Q has a slowish projectile speed you can also use her E for the snare to make landing the q a bit easier. At least that's what i see the Lux player base do

Honestly I love Lux so much, but I just dropped her since she gets countered so easily.

What you want to do in lane is try to kill the casters first, this makes it easier for landing surprise Qs . Lux is less about prediction and more about precision, so you generally want to aim no more than one meter near the target. If you see they are weaving to snares, generally the rule of thumb is so move right, so the enemy generally dodges left and vice versa. If you feel like you are literally right next to them but don't want to whiff your q, then just cast E and allow the slow to help with close ranged chase stuff. Unless you are drawing creep aggro, you should always be on the side of their casters so you can develop lane control

If you want to really improve on your skillshots, learn Xerath. Every single one of his abilities is a skill shot. I know playing him helped me tons.

I started way back in season 1... and I guess I never thought about how to land it. Normally I just aim the skillshot where I think they are going to be. Back in S2 when I learned about quick cast I memorized all of the champions I play spell radius. It takes longer to Double press a skill (as a cast), and can cause you to potentially miss because of the delay between aiming and casting.

TLDR I would suggest quick cast if you haven't already, and enemy movement prediction rather than aiming at their current location.

Edit: I also used to play without a mouse and use only a trackpad. It might sound really silly, but it makes the game extremely difficult to do so. It might be worth having some fun doing that on a brand new account, it could help change your perspective on how to play the game. Playing with a mouse opened up a whole new era of being able to play for me, but I feel like my track pad days helped me learn how to be a better player.

It is often a good idea to start with your E first. This is a very wide skillshot that is far easier to land, and it slows the target down. If you can land Q after, great. But even if you miss you can still AA them and proc your passive and still trade rather well.

As for getting better at landing skillshots, unfortunately that is just something that takes practice. It is important to remember though that no matter how good you get you will still miss sometimes. The key is to you can remain calm even after missing, and whenever possible avoid being in a situation where you will die if you miss. Meaning don't do things like try to flash + skillshot to catch people out, but instead calmly wait for an opening and try to exploit it.
