MMR Gain/Loss

So as I've seemed to notice, when i go on a winning streak of per say, 10 wins, I barely gain any MMR, but if I lose only a few games, per say, 3 or 4 losses, my MMR drops dramatically and is nearly impossible to get back to the MMR that I SHOULD be in. This causes a domino effect of where I start to play with people that are not of my skill level, so then I go against people still in my skill, therefore I lose even more, making climbing near impossible. How do I fix this situation to where I get my MMR back??
