Play him, best way to figure out counters.
well renenkton is all physical damage so ARMOR is a good start.
2ndly he gets bonus damage on abilities for having FURY ( that red resource bar) he gains it by hitting /farming cs anytime he is above 50% he has bonus damage on his abilities.
learn his CDs cuz he dont have to worry about mana so you can have an idea when he will have his full combo up.
typical all in combo is E into W for stun/ triple hit Q and E out or E again to chase.
his Q heals him, his E reduces targets armor for 4 secs an his W is a stun they all have bonus stats if he has 50% fury
his ult is aoe magic damage ( like a sunfire ) and gives him bonus hp and fury
Bramble vest is strong against him
poppy plays pretty decently into him. you can contest his damage pretty well, he cant go on you because of your w (forcing him to walk up into melee range first) you naturally build armor anyways, and ult makes you incredibly safe from ganks too, to boot.
if you take aftershock, you can e-auto-q then w away and he literally cant trade back except with his own q and stun, but because of aftershock you'll end up taking way less damage anyway. bonus points if you get your passive shield. it doesnt matter if you hit a wall either, though doing so is always benificial.
however, dont get dumb and oom yourself, or e into 4+ caster minions.

Resourceless champion with built in sustain. A Black Cleaver or even Trinity Force rush followed by tank itemization will help. Silence on Q, armor shred on W, Tenacity on E when Ren indicates he wants to stun you, and, of course, an ultimate for secure executions.
A champion that proves deceptively tanky. Easy to all in an enemy, especially one that gets up in your face constantly. He's also very sticky and designed so that when he wants to stay on someone, he stays on them even if they dash away. Damage and health items are the way to go for his damage scalings and skaarl's health scalings. Courage refills fast upon dismount as long as you've not lost much base health and it's easy enough to farm while his passive is on cooldown.
As previously stated, Renekton's stun is nothing more than an empowered auto attack, and Jax can dodge it. He also has superior dps to Renekton and can out trade and out duel him fairly easily. And even though Jax uses mana, he doesn't burn through it all that quickly. Trinity Force rush followed by tank itemization will make dealing with Renekton easy.
I'm not that good at top lane to be honest; so, I only listed the champions that I know for certain work for me in that match up. But there are other options.
Pick a ranged champion that he has a hard time getting on top of or a melee champion that he can't get away from. He lives for short trades and if he can't get out after his full combo, he's kinda boned
Any champion who beats him in laning is probably a champion that can force trades to go long, but even then, it's a matter of skill difference
The best option is to farm and outscale tho
Ranged champs, but only if you know how to kite/disengage properly.
Sion can fare ok vs him especially against a newer renekton player.
Malphite... just play passive, hug tower and farm up. Pop your w when he engages.
Jax and fiora if you are good with them. Darius too to a lesser extent.
Mordekaiser. Morde is actually pretty damn strong vs renekton due to the shield he can build up and his q.
Basically a key to remember is that renekton is a burst champion. If you can extend the fight after he has already used abilities, then you will win the trade most of the time.
Stack armor early on. Even if you are not a champion who will build a ton of armor or normally rush it... stack armor. Renekton actually needs armor pen more than other bruisers and fighters in order to deal meaningful damage.
Play for scaling. You still probably won't beat him early on unless you're playing a lane bully ranged champ, but you can go even. If you can go even and outscale, you've won.
