Does being a playmaker help you at all?

So as I've climbed ranks to where I feel like I'm pretty ok at the game I've seen that playing the game successfully requires a few different things. Mechanical Skill Short-term decision making (objectives, evaluating a potential fight) Long-term decision making (item builds, role in team comp)

One particular thing I've found to be helpful is to play the game more and more carefully. Some of this is unquestionably good, such as placing more wards, some of it is questionable to me. For example I've found a lot of success playing Zilean mid, as I can safely can escape most all-ins and ganks. Usually my plan is to survive in lane and wait for the jungler to gank to get a kill. Then late game I generally stay behind the top laner, throwing bombs, speeds, and ults on them as they cause chaos.

The thing is I used to get a lot more big plays and solo kills than I used to, and I'm wondering how necessary these are. If I keep playing like this without really trying to make big plays will I get to a point where I can't cilmb anymore because I won't let myself take more initiative in the game overall? Is it better to try to make bigger plays and solokills, or is this just more how higher ELO works?

Trying not to be too passive, don't be Killean the Zilean Zilean

Solokills and outplays allow your presence in lane to be more intimidating. You can deny your enemy laner exp/gold and map pressure much more effectively if you get a big enough lead over them. However, they aren't necessary. You can accomplish the same result with proper wave management and harassment.

I don't think that there is a definitive answer to this. There are a lot of variables in play: champions, lanes, mechanics, etc. You sound like a support who wants to carry but just doesn't.

IMO, you might want to play a bit more aggressively. I'm not talking about going balls-to-the-walls crazy on to your enemies. Simple stuff like poking your enemy laner when he steps up to CS. Is he positioned in a way where you can land a cc move and deal free damage? Go for it. When I play a carry in mid or adc, I do sometimes wait for my jg for a gank, but that's not always the case. Your junglers could be the ones that need your help. What if the enemy jungler invades your jungler and you spot him before any thing crazy happens? You ping and coordinate with you allies to help deal with invader. You see your jungler getting infernal while the enemy jg is at top? You push your lane in as fast and as much as possible and help get drake.

Despite all of this, if you feel like you hit a wall in terms of skill cap, just find try to improve on the little things. Such as map awareness. Set a timer to go off every few intervals to remind you to look at the map until it's second-nature. Stuff like that helps out a lot. If you regularly play rank, you are bound to play against much better players. Continually playing against these players should help improve your skills.

And if nothing I said helped, then fuck it. Who gives a shit. It's a game. Just have fun. This is NA after all. Unless you want to play in LCS, dont pop a blood vessel for this game.
