Smurfs ruining lower elo

I know what you're thinking. "You suck thats why". Typical toxic shit that these smurfs bring. They either harass you on why you aren't playing better or playing bad or they face stomp you or your team or they troll. NOT ALL SMURFS DO BUT ENOUGH TO POINT IT OUT. I'll give you examples.

  1. You're on a team of legit silver team on both sides but one side has a smurf who are more mechanically better/familiar and skilled. He could single handedly face stomp you or help his team face stomp you. Why this is bad? You're a boxer, a pretty good one... but because you're training in a silver league and striving to get to a gold league its a bit hard because you're not familiar to higher league techniques and the pace they are at. You go into a pro silver league division and don king puts you up with Mike Tyson who smurfing as M. Bison. You die on the first round. Understand what I'm trying to say? It's a team based game you say? Fine! You're in a fighting tournament. You got 4 average probably Gold Rank potential teammates. You, yourself is probably Gold or higher potential. The enemy team is composed of the same quality people but just one factor... matchmaking let a Super Saiyan 3 Goku disguises as Mr. Satan in and hes on the other team. You or just your team get smashed and everyone feeling like shit right now or like "Eff you riot" or something and this smurf is either mocking you, bragging or plugging his stream in the lobby. Not all smurfs do this but most of them do.

  2. You got a smurf on your team. Either hes legitimately screwing around or hes not playing seriously to begin with. Example 1. Riven is top so the guy calling top picks ww. We didn't complain about it, we just hoping he'll do well. He feeds hard. We try to help him but he dies so fast before we get there. We asked him why isnt he playing safe? he says he just wanted to try ww top because he never tried it before. After a long dialogue of trying to help him then him insulting us saying stuff like this elo is stupid and we're asking him if hes so good why is he purposely feed by making bad moves. He says "I don't care if I win or lose. I got what I want on my main. I'm just having fun" Having fun at everyone expense and he was laughing and bragging about it the whole time. This happens so much.

  3. Let's say your team has this smurf and you'll probably win or lose depending on the rest of your team but through the whole time hes nagging you to do this and that. You might be able to keep up but eventually he starts saying youre shit, you suck terrible this terrible that. I hate this fucking elo. Why is this elo so bad/dumb/retarded/stupid/etc. On and on. Even if you mute him, he might get on the other teammates case. Start doing shit like mass ping on creeps you're trying to farm for some items so you can scale but the dipshit wants it all for himself and not let his teammates stay on par.

It's ridiculous that when you're trying to climb rank according to your skill and gameplay that someone who's MORE EXPERIENCED IN HIGHER LEVER GAMEPLAY AND MECHANICS comes in, ruin your game and rubs it in your face. Some actually try to console you, others dont give a damn if they ruined your day. For people trying to earnestly climb rank, you improve gradually because you're not surrounded by higher level of gameplay and mechanics so you don't know how to perform/deal with them in such a low elo. When you get fake ranked people(people who got carried or new to rank) or people who don't have enough game knowledge on your team, trying to carry them is difficult but its bad enough you got to deal with these smurfs as well.

And if some of you are trying to use that BS excuse about it'll make me play better, that only depends on the individual and training. It's like you telling me to 1v1 Michael Jordan and I'll become a pro basketball player. That's not how it works.

What do you do about it though? As long as it's a free game there will be no reason for people not to smurf.

This has been a problem for years, and there's honestly not really anything Riot can do about it. Just report them and hope it doesn't happen again

There is no way to perfectly stop smurfs from playing in lower elos and there really isn't a great band air for it either. However, i think the smurf problem is really inflated due to a few things

  • most people who claim they are smurfs aren't. It's mostly just an excuse to get a comfort role. This makes it feel like there are more smurfs in lower elos than there actually are.

  • When you think of smurfs you only really remember the ones that "ruin" your game. Mostly the people who claim they are smurfs. Then there are the ones that land on the opposite team who completely dominate.

Personally, I think having real smurfs in low elo isn't too bad because it mostly evens out.

  • Usually you get just as many smurfs on your team than you get on the opposite team. And most of the time when you get carried by a smurf or not you take the win and don't say a word. I know i do...

  • Smurfs actually provide a lot of ways to improve as a player because you can learn so much from watching them play. The way you really get better is to learn from experience and by playing with people who have more game knowledge and mechanical skill allows you to learn much faster. For example lets say you learn 1 new thing a game and apply it to your next few games, when you play against a smurf you might pick up 5-6 different cool things that they do to push an advantage and it could end up pushing you to the next division alone. even though you don't want to hear this if you do 1v1 michael jordon all the time you will eventually become a really good basketball player and probably become professional. lol

Sure the loss really sucks, but all losses do. to address some of the other things you said, people who say "this elo" usually belong in that same elo 99% of the time. The people who really smurf usually don't say anything at all or even mention they are smurfing until late in the game. I have smurfed before and i probably told 1 game out of 20 that i smurfed. The point of a smurf isn't to feed in low elo because they can do that in any elo they are in. the point of a smurf is to win because you aren't necessarily winning against the mmr you are matched up against, you want to brush up on some mechanical skills, or you want to learn a new champion ( and if they are REALLY smurfing it shouldn't really matter if it's the first time they've played a champ because lane mechanics, map awareness, and game sense is still enough to win 80% of games in low elo. )

Rank doesn't matter btw. I lan with people ranging from D5 to B4, and we all typically play around the same skill level. The solo queue ranking system is broken, and needs to be changed.

Had this happen with a ranked game a while back, played syndra most of the game the only thing keeping us afloat was that I and draven were very ahead in the midgame, but almost all teamfights riven would carry, couldn't win a 3v5 because one of those 3 players was the riven. eventually we won because I managed to stun riven, and hit her with my combo before I got blitz grabbed didn't even kill her, but the fact that I got riven very low, and even though its a 4v4.5 at that point my team still won. after game, Riven told us she was diamond and when I asked for a name, It was a legitamate name that actually got to diamond, plays almost exclusively riven too. He didnt say anything in allchat. but still 1 player almost cost us the game, just because it was a smurf.
