Sion W seems less stacked than newer champion/reworked shields

I just got out of a game recently and noticed for the first time that Ornn's w provides "Displacement Immunity" like a Warwick q would. I don't have a problem with it, of course our Yasuo top couldn't do much, but that's fine to have, as it would feel bad to bust out such a short range skill and have it do zero damage due to cc. As for Urgot, in his recent rework his w was changed in a way for him to stack fever very fast for a tank, and slows enemies to about his own to keep them in range.

As for Sion, his W has stood the test of time since his rework early season 5, and while I know it has the health stacking passive(which really looks like im going to try out with the new health stacking rune in pre-season 8) it has a significantly longer cooldown, and its only combat bonus outside of the shield is that it can blow up, assuming it isn't destroyed during the trade you prep it for. Even Nautilus gets immediate value for trading from his shield through a mini sunfire built into it, and its bigger and than Sion's during the lane phase when tank trades can actually matter. Sion's shield seems to be more useful as an extra waveclear tool, and maybe 300-500 bonus health in late game teamfights, but 300-500 isn't much considering the meta is crit adc with tank frontlines.

Of course I shouldn't base his shield effectiveness on meta, but considering that hes supposed to be a giant full tank with reliable cc, the W seems like a boring skill that you only rank up for the passive. I honestly have no idea what I would change, but it seems to have very little use, especially if its gone before the 2 seconds are up to deal your 100 magic damage(which seems to be the most common damage value i get back after popping a level 1 W on a lane opponent).

I do have an idea

i think the health farming is fine now after the latest buff And the 3 seconds detonate timer has been there forever now so i'm fine with that The shield strength seems fine to me as well

However it does have a lot of counter play and has weaker up time compared to other tank steroids

For example maokai can spam a heal as long as his enemies spam spells gragas has a heal and a dmg reduction both with similar cooldown to sion w so again twice the uptime in tank steroids

And lets compare it to nautilus shield, nautilus doesn't need to lose his shield for damage it's the opposite, it also goes on cooldown immediatley so he can literally spam it to no end, again way more uptime

Other champs don't need to lose their tank steroid for damage and they get more up time too so that is imho the unfair part

I do not need for Sion to have more up time on it nor do i need other changes of that nature. The fact that has to choose between tanking or dealing damage is a cool unique thing The counterplay is also a good thing imho

But the reward for detonating it isn't

In my opinion to make the shield better it's damage should scale with Sion's health instead I also think it would be interesting to increase the AP ratio to allow for more item diversity in his build so he can increase shield strength and damage better with ap.

I think he could use a little something to give him a more rewarding W considering it has many more drawbacks then most other tank steroids and considerable less uptime

the thing is, if you want more stacks, you'll have to say goodbye to the damage part

I feel his W's damage should scale with bonus HP instead of 40% AP. He never really includes AP in his build, which just makes the damage portion fall off hard against everything except glass cannons late game. In comparison, Nautilus shield is vastly superior damage wise due to having all AP scaling.

W's damage scaling with his stacks would also make him much more fun to play, he would no longer be punished late game for building full tank and opponents would be forced to actually focus him.

What i think would be nice is if they buffed his q so that it can also be used as a more single target dps skill. Right now if you channel his q for less than a second it does little damage and channeling it longer is usually only good in teamfights, as a zoning tool or sometimes for chasing enemies. In a duel its pretty weak/unreliable(if charged). So i think it could be buffed in this way:

If decimating smash was charged for less than 1s it resets the auto attack timer and reduces the cooldown by 50% if an enemy is hit with the next basic attack(Which than has the crit "kick" animation because it looks cool) .

Now sheen would be even better on him but he still has to decide: more reliable dps or more cc and aoe burst?

Edit: For his w i have another idea:

Sion can now detonate his Shield after 1.5s but with only 1/3 of the damage. Damage taken within the first 1.5s increase the damage based on how much Health the Shield lost. So lets say +2% for every 1% Shield lost. The damage also increases over the first 3 seconds up to 150% bonus, but the total bonus damage can never exceed 200% (This can be indicated as an icon that stops at 200). So now he can use his shield like before, but also as a sort of counter skill against burst.

I could imagine this would make him overpowered, but it would be definitely fun to use.
