He keeps getting buffs for no real reason.

He needs a nerf tbh.

Simply put, thresh is too good at too many things.

He has more base damage on all his abilities than Zyra, he is a top class tank in terms of versatility, both good at peeling and engaging and zone control.

And he is also one of the few "catchers" with his Q in addition to possessing his W.

Lastly he is good at all stages in the game, he has no real downtime, all these combined serves to make him the absolutely best support in the game and it shows.

He is broken since he was relased, i used to permaban him (before they added more cancerous pyke) cause of his stupid overloaded abilities and broken q hitbox

Josh Sand2/1/2019, 4:05:37 PM10 votes

This happened after Riot lowered Thresh's cooldown on his hook. They did it right before worlds and his value spiked to where it is now, and it hasnt been touched since.

Originally Thresh had a high CD on his hook and got a CD reduction if it actually landed on a champion, meaning that if you were good at Thresh, you could get a lot of hooks off.

Now its just dudes throwing hooks out nonstop, constantly fishing for a lucky hit. Its stupid because before you actually had to calculate your hook usage. Now its just spanming dice rolls till you get a good result.

Changes like this one cheapen the mastery expression Thresh used to have. How this change wasnt reverted is beyond me. But then again, the state of the game is fucking bonkers from top to bot, so maybe it makes sense to be thrown into this failed experiment of a meta.

He's the only fun support that isn't a dmg support (Brand, pyke etc)

D3m37r12/1/2019, 11:50:14 AM6 votes

He's one of the few fun supports so he gets picked alot and has a large playerbase.

Seenan2/1/2019, 11:23:03 PM5 votes

Too much in his kit. Flay shouldn't knockup AND slow. Ult shouldn't affect the same champion more than once.

Bisaknosp2/1/2019, 7:28:42 PM5 votes

hes been broken since release hows that a surprise

letsfeedtogether2/1/2019, 10:42:11 AM5 votes

nah. just ton of people 1 trick him. he isnt op

Jofeyy2/1/2019, 4:20:57 PM3 votes

He's very fun, and very easy to understand. He's also a bit overtuned. The makings of a popular champion.

TyroneWatermelon2/1/2019, 3:50:52 PM3 votes

was he ever not? even when supports were underpowered and a complete joke, Thresh was always the best of them and was fine

Tuition Fee2/1/2019, 4:06:53 PM3 votes

Main issue: around 90% of player base are silver and below. In those ranks, I'd say a ton of people run in straight lines, don't ward properly, get ward baited (Trying to destroy a ward and getting their asses hooked), have no map awareness and thus fall for bluffs (Throwing lanterns into unwarded bushes) or think it's a good idea to get away ASAP, and commit suicide on Thresh's ult walls. Also, no one really builds a Mikael's, QSS is not built nearly as often as it should be, poke supports play wayyyyy too agro at a close range, or people misjudge distance. Thresh is very good at punishing mistakes (The Lux casting a spell while not behind minions) which makes him great in low elos I find, as people make tons of them.

To prove my point, in plat+ his winrate drops by .6%. In LCS, it's only 41.6%, but still a fairly high pick rate (24.4%). Why is this? Because LCS players nowadays basically play Farmville, not daring to overstep their positioning as they KNOW they will instantly get bursted to death, meaning they make much less mistakes than us, by simply playing passively and not getting hit by hooks.

koshkyra2/1/2019, 11:14:08 PM3 votes

His playerbase is too big to the point where riot is scared to nerf him. He’s been overpowered for a long time now.

Few years late to this realization

Please read before you down vote me to oblivion

I hate when people say Thresh is OP (not talking to OP but commenters) , he really hasn't been till recently. I have main Thresh since release in 2013 and in my eyes he has always been balanced. Now why has he become strong recently? Well it all started with runes reforge, see Thresh use to run Thunder lords decree. This meant that he was a high risk, high reward champion. You would scarifies tackiness early in order to get a lead in lane with ignite. Now he runs aftershock which means you get tanky af when you all in at lvl 2. However there are 2 other reasons, during the beginning of worlds Thresh got a cdr buff on his hook. While you can still go full cdr on thresh, it really isnt mandatory so you can branch out a bit and get tankier early. Finally the stupid support item reworks, Thresh use to run Relic shield if you had a shitty match up that poked u alot u were kinda fuked. Now if you have a shitty match up you can go Talisman, spam hooks and get mana back from the coins that drop.

So don't give me that bs that he was always OP, its just all these changes to the game that have helped him unintentionally not counting the buff (which was riot balancing team being idiots trying to get people hype for worlds with LCS BiG PlAyS

3 ways to knock Thresh down a a peg.

  • Revert buffs from worlds
  • Either nerf aftershocks early game damage, or tackiness like (levels 1-3)
  • Buff Tahm (One of his biggest counters which is just gone)
Tobykachu2/1/2019, 5:08:45 PM2 votes

Revert the random ass Q buffs they gave him a while ago. He can literally throw his Q off cooldown and even if he misses the window he has to punish them was reduced significantly, which is his only real weakness.

TsunamiSS2/1/2019, 5:48:13 PM1 votes

Anecdotal story here: I played against a Thresh last night and he dominated me. He predicted my side-steps and hooked me almost every time; he literally gave his Lucian a free lane.

I have no problem against the utility side of Thresh; I deserved to lose the lane. But what I did have a problem with was his damage. When I looked at the death recap (as inaccurate as it may be), Thresh was literally doing 75-80% of my health bar. All his Lucian had to do was hit me with one Q and both autos from his passive and I was dead.

I don't understand why champions like Thresh, and others, need to have so much damage on top of their utility. They are already very hard to kill, why load them with the ability to solo you?

Is he OP? Probably not. He is a champ with a ton of utility and at the higher levels of play (Diamond) I'd imagine players are really adept at utilizing his kit. But in my opinion, he definitely needs his damage reduced.

Z3Sleeper2/2/2019, 12:00:19 AM1 votes

Well apparently his Q cd gets reduced if he hits ANYTHING including minions. So he's actually rewarded for even missing it as long as it hits a minion.

BLIGHTBRINGER2/1/2019, 5:52:25 PM1 votes

I just find him strong because he has both high damage and strong CC

  • 1.5 Second Stun on Q on all ranks.

  • 20 - 40% Slow for 1 second on E

  • 99% Slow on R at all ranks for 2 Seconds, which is equivalent to 2 Dusblade Slow Proc's. The box itself lasts 5 Seconds, and other enemies hitting additional walls after the first one was already hit will be slowed for half the original amount (49.5%).

And his damage is always naturally high due to his Passive granting him free AP that his abilities scale with.

And if somehow you are able to compete with that, Thresh just has the biggest way to deny kills by throwing his lantern which grants a shield (Scalling with both AP and Passive Stacks) and pulls them to where he is (meaning he could flash over the wall and the ally will follow up).

Sire Hippington2/1/2019, 3:25:46 PM1 votes

Main issue is damage creep paired with his strong lane and good synergie with dominant early laners. His Q is a strong fishing tool that can creat fights without commitment, and with how high damage atm is, landing it on the enemie tank is enough to force summoners or get a kill mid/lategame, and if you miss or don't have enough followup, you still are in a relatively save spot. Champs like Leona usually pay with their own live for such things if they don't have the full backup from their team. At the same time, he still has his rather strong laneing with a mix of harras, peel and all-in-potential.
