So can anyone please explain minion behavior?

So i play malph mid and throw a q at irelia from my minion line, her minions are now chasing me to my tower, but if irelia jumps on top of me in my wave and my minions..................do nothing? like literally nothing at all besides fight the enemy minions, why?
