Needing Mid/Top Lane Assistance

As things currently stand, I'm having lots of trouble. I keep wavering between Silver IV and Silver V, wanting to get to Gold V. My main champion for use in mid lane: Heimerdinger. Why do I like him? He's a poofy scientist yordle with turrets and lasers. He sits in lane and is comparatively safer from ganks due to his turrets severely punishing anyone that comes in. At least, that's the theory. But at least half the time I lose games because I either get outmaneuvered as the Donger (e.g. the jungler is Zac or ganks from the least-likely-to-be-warded/expected regions of the jungle), their team has too much wave-clear (= my turrets die) or tankiness (haha your turrets are hitting me like a pussy because I have all the HP and MR), or my team gets destroyed in their respective lanes or in scenarios where they decide to teamfight when I'm too far away to come help. My playstyle is to at least remain as a passive solid point that pushes the lane and gets the turrets, then helps out other lanes if needed at that point, while everyone else on my team carries their lanes with the lack of pressure needed toward my end (again, in theory). I also have next to no idea when to start wavering from the build that I use for him (http://www.mobafire.com/league-of-legends/build/s6-14-top-mid-heimerdinger-the-revered-inventor-of-lp-70-469381), in part because the game is already gone by the time I've finished half the core, and in part because when I'm building for one scenario the enemy team already dominates in another (e.g. building Rylai's and Liandry's to deal with the tanks when I should have gone for Void Staff or Morellonomicon).

From my latest experience and from what the pro sites are saying, Heimerdinger seems like a trap champion who will never get me to Gold V with the state of the game as it is. But he's also the only champion I've invested a lot of experience in; I don't want to give up this season to learn anyone else for next year. Nor would I believe myself to be able to perform as well if I did take up another champ for ranked. If I were to replace Heimerdinger, I'd want someone easy to use well in ranked, but also able to claim objectives and/or kill the priority targets without any binary requirements (e.g. Rengar's "get fed or AFK" problem).

Refer to LoLKing (http://www.lolking.net/summoner/na/40287279) or other related sites (e.g http://na.op.gg/summoner/userName=Dakka%20Downpour) for further match details. Would also appreciate general light tips that would improve my chances without having to commit to a training regimen or summoner school schedule; where/when to ward, what items should I be getting in what order for which scenarios, runes/masteries, how severely should I lash out at people in real life for driving me past my anger point, what skin I should go with, etc.

This is mainly about my Heimerdinger use, but I also prefer top lane as my secondary; anyone I should go with in there? Having rough times with Garen; currently tentatively considering Nasus/Tryndamere/Jax because "I can wreck anything if I'm given the farm I need" win conditions.

Nasus is great for SoloQ as you need coordination to stop a good Nasus, looks like your problem is caused by not saying boop all game. Boop boosts your morale and has been proven to win 15% more games when you say Boop at least 5 times every game.

Here's a tip, watch good players that main the champion u like on youtube etc.

not only do u wanna be better with your champion but you want a better understanding of the game in general what it takes to win the game is the same regardless of the champion you play. knowing when to go in, when to play passive, where to ward etc...

finally try to keep an eye on the mini map, where is the enemy jungler, where is your jungler can you roam to help another lane.

final point, play a champion that is easy to play, and can carry games. Your teammates can only take u so far. YOU NEED TO CARRY yourself to the next level.

I hope that helped. I just threw together a ton of random points that may help you. gl hf.

I recommend Cho'Gath. Easy to learn, simple kit, minimal champion-specific mechanics to learn. As long as you can get your feast stacks and avoid unnecessary deaths, you're good to go. Cho also has massive lane sustain and pretty heavily counters any burst/combo mages you may go up against. Can be built full AP, AP off-tank, or full tank and can still dish out the pain due to high base damages on abilities and the massive true damage ultimate. As long as you're careful, Cho also has high innate tankiness due to their ultimate, which increases their health quite significantly. Cho is also a decently effective roamer, whereas Heimerdinger has trouble with roaming because of his more passive, zone-of-control based playstyle.

If you can mechanically play them well, Assassins are great at carrying your team in silver. Many people don't know how to counter them and think they're op (if you don't believe me, look at all the threads on the boards about assassins being op). As well, because of the general lack of counterplay knowledge in silver, an assassin's high-risk/high-reward gameplay is made a lot less riskier, as there is less punishment for mistakes. An assassin can also snowball other lanes, or, if they're feeling greedy, they can purely snowball their own. Lastly, because of their damage and mobility, you can easily avoid ganks if you are being camped, and you generally have the ability to control your own fate in lane.
