Ranked AFK Demotions

I'm about to get demoted because I've had 3 ranked games in a row in which teammates have AFKed. I'm not sure why Riot hasn't tried to find some sort of fix for this, or give players subjected to this some sort of loss forgiveness. This issue has cause over a dozen player I know to stop play LOL almost entirely, and I know it's already a highly debated topic which begs the question, has Riot really tried at all to amend this issue?
