Kill Participation to determine Ranking - Controversial?

I noticed Kill Participation affects rankings after a game. It encourages and rewards an offensive playstyle and penalizes defensive playstyles on particular champions.

Should that be the case? How about lowering the effect KP has on the ranking?

I think objectives are included(some how) in the participation tally on a systemic level.

Because you can split push get only objectives not get a single kill and still get S rank.

KDA is only a part of the grading. This game was an S+: http://matchhistory.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/NA1/2159222453/205363278?tab=overview (most likely from towers I believe)

There are a lot of factors. Game dmg, wards placed, kda, towers etc. As far as I know assists count for as much as kills so even when playing a defensive style champ you should still get the same ranking as someone who only has kills. If you are talking about vs laners who can roam when you can't, keep in mind creep score does count

Is there a definitive or at least scientifically well-informed list of what affects your ranking?

JarvanIV - im helping, see the flag? SEE IT!?!?!

i haven't noticed this, but i maintain close to 50% KP in most of my games, unless im just doing something else like pushing/wave management. mind giving a little bit of evidence?

KP has nothing to do with being offensive or defensive. It's an indicator to determine how much impact you have on your team.
