Stop Surrendering

I thought we could use a thread about something other than Vaarass.

So why do people log onto a competitive game only to win!? They think it’s the only kind of game that has value or something. I have learned to enjoy the struggle to come back from a deficit and so can you. Not only will it make you a better player, it will also make you a better person.

If you only play to win set up a smurf or play against bots. The adults want to play one game tonight that makes it to the nexus.

In b4 people flame about the accelerated pace of the preseason game and their tendency to snowball. It’s still worth playing through an entire game to see if you’re good enough to overcome the odds.

In most forms of competition you can recognize when you're not going to win. In some conceding victory to your opponent is allowed.

In most games the goal is to have fun. You can have fun by being creative or being competitive, or anything in between. When you're not having fun you're missing out on the point of the game.

You're not being an "adult" by never surrendering, and they are not being "children" by giving up. Sometimes you cannot win, and sometimes a win is simply not worth the effort, and recognizing either of those options is a skill you have to learn. Not everyone plays for the game at hand either, and being forced to sit through a horrible situation often ruins their mood for the future games they were planning to play. Particularly in ranked playing for the average rather than an individual game is a legitimate way to play, and so avoiding tilt is a necessary thing to do.

You enjoy the game one way, but you're playing with a mix of people who enjoy different things. You can complain all you like, but the only way you'll get around this is to find a premade team to play with that agrees with you.

Stop Surrendering

No. I'll do what I want when I want to.

If people threw as often as people claimed I wouldn't ff. But for every throw there are 4 games that people hard stomp you in. I have enough things in life to suffer through, I'm not turning my hobby into a chore unless its ranked and even then if we have horrible teamwork coordination and we are all unhappy better off getting a reset.

Maybe it's the testosterone in me, but I like to win, it's more fun than losing. I don't care what game mode I play, I enjoy winning more than losing. I have had a few games that I lost in which I was still highly entertained, but winning is infinitely preferable.

It really isn't any fun to play in a game where you already know the outcome because it's 20-2 at 15 minutes. Not even being able to react because my mid laner fed (insert champion name here) who blows me up in less than a second isn't FUN for me. So yes, in those scenarios.... which are becoming far more common in League these days... I will always surrender.

If you only play to win set up a smurf or play against bots. The adults want to play one game tonight that makes it to the nexus.

Implying that "adults" don't want to surrender or that it's more "adult" to play a game to the end?

Listen, junior, as part of being an adult I have a job and a life and, as such, my free time is pretty valuable, I would prefer to spend it having fun and maximizing my time to the fullest. Hey, you don't have a job or commitments? I envy you, I really do, but for those of us that do, we can't always waste the extra ten minutes on an outcome that we know is inevitable. That's not only being an adult, that's being smart.

I would have agreed with this post even as recently as two seasons ago (Season 6), but the way that League is now it's just not the same. Comebacks are VERY rare because of how snowbally and fast paced the game is these days. In Gold/Plat Elo that's how it is, maybe there are still 45 minute games in Bronze or way up in Master Tier, I don't know... I don't play at those levels, but I will tell you that even when I play with friends in lower MMRs, the game is over by 25 minutes even if they don't surrender.

Lol - they even surrender while winning these days...

Not to lang ago my Team threw away a game where we had a 6k Gold defecit AFTER a lost 3v4 skrimish with a scaling Comp @25!!!

They just surrendered without even thinking! 4-0 in a second leaving me like... "WHUUT?!?"

(The enemys would have gotten litterally nothing out of this figth, except this gold.)

I agree. I have had many insane comeback games. I try to never give up. But I am human, so even I giveup sometimes. But I remember one particular game, I was in promos (Silver1) and the enemy team had 1or2 Diamonds on it. I was tilted from the start. https://matchhistory.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/NA1/2592165803/231458921?tab=overview But my team (of mostly strangers) didn't give up. I admit they carried me hard, despite my negative attitude.

And I have helped my team comeback before. The fun is usually the whole team ha to work together to comeback from those games and it is good when it works. If it doesn't work. Ok, maybe you spend 5-10 more minutes. It isn't bad. If you spend 20+ minutes, then it was a close game. And we could have won. Even if I am upset, I actually enjoy long games that we lose. It means we just were not good enough in multiple aspects to close out. And those games are the best. (curse that one game of getting 3 aces at 50min but having no waves to get inhib, still fun).

Great feedback guys! Even I’ve surrendered a few times when my wife is laning with me and can’t take any more stomp. I’m stubborn and will by zzrot on any champ or backdoor or something else desperate like soloing baron to pass the time. I may just go on a mission to 1v1 their best player to amuse myself. Anything other than giving up. To those who didn’t like my adult comment I see your points. To the guy who thinks I don’t have a job I do. Full time plus a baby. However, I have more fun when a game goes to fruition. When I’m stomping a team I really appreciate when they let me finish too. It’s very sportsmanlike. If I’m crushing the enemy I’d like to see how full build feels or what I can get my kdr up to and if the enemy doesn’t give up I make sure to thank them in the lobby. Thanks again for taking the thread seriously.

Sometimes you just have to realise that a game is unwinnable, especially if you are losing as an early game team comp there isnt any room for a comeback against a team who simply outscales you.

Accept your loss, don't waste time and move on to the next game.

if its ranked i get this mentality

but if its a normal game, one meant for fun. you can go fuck yourself m8

My reasons for wanting to surrender.

1: I'm simply outmatched and forced to play under tower. 2: The team is going to lose at 20 because it's that pushed soff at 15 saves time. 3: Someone on my team is constantly flaming 4: I'm getting flamed from my ADC because we're losing lane(It's always the supports fault, duh). 5: You know that the person who gets 2 kills before 5 minutes is just going to roam all game.

Sorry but if bot lane is already 0/5 before i even hit level 6 than they have already proven that if we somehow make a comeback they are very likely to throw it with their stupidity.

I rather save myself the trouble and move onto the next game.

The more fed your opponent is, the more distorted your feedback becomes, and there is a point at which they are so fed that you can't tell whether what you did would've been a good move in a more equal set up.

honestly 9 times out of 10 there's about .0000005% chance of the group of 5 potatoes makes a comeback that was worth not ff.

Dead flag blues12/4/2017, 1:10:01 PM1 votes

Bronze games are just hell. As someone who almost never plays ranked, each time I try, my team tries to FF as soon as it's available. Some people even spam "ff" from min 3 because they got ganked by the enemy jungler and gave the first blood, so they either refuse to play (staying in base, not even going afk to "trick the system") or just start trolling
