I see a lot of people bitching about mage supports bot lane.
Removing/ reworking this item to not add damage but still reward an aggressive play style would be a move in the right direction.
It might only be 39 damage off of 
but its a step at least.
Support items in general have been shit since they made 
anyways.
At least nerf the item. It has been buffes a ridiculous amount of times ever since its release.
Support items are not supposed to be good items. They are cheap because they are made for low income champions. Also it just needs its mana regen nerfed. Everyone has infinite mana now. Just nerf mana regen everywhere and especially on aggressive supports so they are punished more spamming.
The item is not the problem. There are only 2 midlane champions played as Support: Xerath and Velkoz
Brand is a support champion as well as Zyra. Lux is a special case she is a hybrid in my opinion.

Looks like Thresh is pretty OP according to statistics.
i guess when i say support items are shit i mean the 3 have very little in the way of identity anymore
melee? shield poke? spell thief anyone else? coin 100% concrete, forced item choices
the actual interactivity of each item sucks using relic shield mid/ late game is awful coins are so bland its just bards chimes but worth gold/ mana spell thief is just another example of more damage which in this meta.. sigh
the items are just bland and boring. supports have so little in the way of choice anymore as compared to other classes
its all the small chunks of damage hidden away in items/ runes/ kits that need to be whittled away a little at a time so that the burst meta can fade
Many mage supports are broken, that is true. But not because of spelltheifs edge. Nerfing spelltheifs will gut already bad supports like karma who take it.
Unforunately the mage rework combined with ap item changes and gold income changes and many more poor balance decisions has lead to the current mage support meta. It's incredibly hard to fix, because once brand and zyra go xerath and velkoz will pop up, and so on.
