Why is this game so stressful?

Ahriellalexus·12/22/2014, 7:29:02 AM·6 votes·2,143 views

So the last 10 games or so, I've gotten about 7 of those games where people are either afk, don't connect, get mad and leave, troll, feed, or fight for lanes and can't come to an agreement. This evening it was another afk. How is it that 70% of games are going like this... Like I just want to come home from work and enjoy a game or two, but I can't even because games aren't even fun anymore when it's stuff like this happening :( Is this happening to other people to? Are they doing something to fix it.

My friend suggested me this game and I am fairly new and some of this crap isn't making it fun at all...

Thanks.

I can't help but agree with you.

Everyone wants to just spam "it's just a game" as though that fixes that most players' experiences with this game are being ruined in one way or another, whether that be through others trolling or the issues that Riot can't seem to fix for more than a week, if at all. Sure, it's just a game, but it's a time investment on the part of the players. And if we feel that our time is better invested elsewhere, perhaps there are some things that Riot needs to address.

First and foremost being that Leaverbuster isn't working. Or at least, it's backfiring and hurting more than it's helping.

The game is stressful because of 0 counterplay cancer champions like Zed, Fizz or Lee Sin which are uncatchable and deal hilarious amounts of damage. People get frustrated and many behave accordingly. Add the fact that you're forced into a role you don't enjoy in at least a thrid of your games (yoloQ) and you got the reason.

It's a fun game, but you have to queue up with a friend and hope you get to ban.

It's only stressful if you care about results.

As a returning player, I am in the exact same boat. My strategy has been to play a champ that can farm well, maybe even a carry or something that snowballs. Play your lane safe, let your bad teammates die over and over, eventually they will not be worth much to the opponent. Keep your area warded so you dont get ganked. Protect towers, and in the meantime just farm, and farm farm and maybe gank if you can.

The goal is to come out of nowhere mid-game with a good build and win a big teamfight, then tell everyone to push. I've won a few 4v5's and games with a 0/12ish/0 teammate by doing this. you'll still lose 90% of the games you thought you were going to, but the occasional game or 2, you can completely turn around with a farmed up late-game champ with a good build, even if it didn't get many kills. That has renewed my faith in playing after the afk/troll losses

I think it is possibly hard to cure. The competitive side of the game may be strong enough that the stress carries over to normals even, and from there infects other to the point it becomes so common for everyone in the community it becomes an unintentional habbit. I still don't like playing normals aside from ARAM or Poro King to avoid the toxicity.

The time commitment per game. Spending 45 min per game just to have one bad mistake made by either you or your teammate throw the whole game is kind of a recipe for everyone to be on edge.

Games where your character becomes more powerful as the match goes depending on how well you do also lead to this kind of snowball vs helplessness feeling.

This is something where Halo, CoD, and other shorter match time games shine. Had a bad game? Well it was probably only 8-15 minutes and you can just go on to the next one or leave if you need to and someone can just replace you without being behind in terms of power compared to other players.

Give Dominion a shot.

The lower time commitment per game, the lack of snowballing, the lack of ridged lane roles, and the faster pace results in a significantly less toxic community. It isn't uncommon that if there's a disconnect or an AFK that someone on the enemy team will intentionally just dance around to make it a 4v4. The community there is significantly more sportsman-like.

Maybe give normals a try.Just don't bother with Team Builder unless you are prepared to accept that some of your team mates are trying new roles or champs for the first time. But it's not troll proof.Sometimes you are going to bump into the ''It's only normals so it's normal if i act like a clown and we lose''

This game takes up a lot of time. This games forces you to be dependent on random people from the internet. "just a couple games" can often take up to 2 hours, and when you're stuck with a troll duo q that ruins the game and denies the ff vote, it wastes your time and ruins free time that is precious for most people.

There being no way to kick someone out of the game and get a replacement is a big issue and it can't be fixed very easily because of how rooted this fact is in the core of the game. This, along with how lanes can be won or lost by such close margins. Someone who had to reconnect because of the firewall bug is going to be pushed into tower for the next 20 minutes just because he came into lane at 2:30 instead of 1:50 or so. This is more evident in toplane since you can't just poke from a distance or use/dodge skillshots in a lane where most champions are melee.

People feel like they wasted their time when they lost. That's the gist of it, I certainly feel that from time to time.

Because it's a bad game.

GundayMonday12/22/2014, 7:42:56 AM1 votes

That's pretty rare actually (I've never had 7 games in a row like that). Once you hit 30 you can play ranked where people take the game more seriously. Also, maybe stop playing teemo so much? Everyone hates teemo, so that may be why you get more afks? Not sure, but it'll get better once you hit 30!

If you're not having fun with a certain game, then it may look like a game, may be tagged as a game, but for you, and your 'gameplay' experience, it does not 'behave' like a game. So, therefore, you're not having fun and not getting 'rid' of the stress but gaining more stress and frustration.

I suggest you: find another type of game that can really give you a less stressful experience than League of Legends. I am not being a forum clown here, im just saying maybe this specific game was not meant to be designed for you. So, ask yourself if there is another game-types/games that you enjoy? Gaming industry is ample, so, you can still look forward to another type of game.

Even if you don't quit League of Legends, you can take a break and come back later. Meanwhile, look for something that fit your expectations. I've done that, it helps. Personal experience. My 2 cents. Cheers.
