Aurelion Sol rework feedback

Hi all.

One of my most favourite champion is Aurelion Sol. I just adore this champion, he has such a unique appearance and playstyle.
So this whole situation is really interesting for me. There are a tons of champs who are begging for a mini rework ( like volibear, fiddle, wukong etc), yet riot decided to rework aurelion sol. Meanwhile wukong fans were promised in january for a mini rework and we still have to wait for it. Back to sol... The mini rework hit PBE and i think its safe to say that 70% of the aurelion sol playerbase hate it. Later on they pushed it to the live servers with similar success. The goal of the rework is pretty clear: make aurelion sol more bursty and beginner friendly at the same time. Lets see what have they done. Passive: Deals less damage but crowd control no longer nullifies Center of the Universe. The first part hurts, the second part is good at first glance. Q-Starsurge: If Aurelion Sol is faster than his star, the star will speed up to keep up with him. Yaay, quality of life change however a decent asol player will never meet this scenario. W - Celestial Expansion: When Aurelion Sol pushes his stars out to the Outer Limit, they gain increased damage and rotate at a high, but decaying speed. After 3 seconds or if Aurelion Sol reactivates it early, the stars will retract and grant Aurelion Sol 40% movement speed, decaying over 1.5 seconds. That is really strange. E- Comet of legend: No longer gains bonus movement speed.+ E is on a much higher CD duration. Hm.. why? R- unchanged. So they created a burst mage in theory. In my opnion the current asol is halfway between a burst mage a roam mage and a control mage. He fails as a burst mage because: He has literally 3 second to burst his oppent down before his Celestal Expansion retract. Yeah, its very nice that enemies can not cancel the Celestal Expansion anymore but think of it like this: There is a kassadin who will CC you throughout the whole match every 3 seconds. The movement speed boost is nice but it would be better at the start of the W not the end. Especially because the stars are rotating so much faster right now that its much more difficult to land your stars (=land your full burst). Mages like Vegiar or Brand will do your job but 100 percent better. He fails as a roam mage because: Now he do not own the movement speed he used to have. Roaming requires quick travel. Fortunatelly he still has his E ability but on a much higher CD. There are champs far better at roaming, like Talon, Lissandra, Twisted Fate. He fails as control mage because: As a control mage you want to CC a lot. It is true that he still has his ult and Q but lets be honest, his bread and butter was to hit 5 enemies at the same time and slow them. Obviously this required a great skill and good positioning. Again there are champs who are just better at giving constant CC and damage.

So at least, is he more beginner friendly? I would not say that neither. The faster rotating stars and the 3 second burst window demand a better postioning than ever. Sure you can try to stun your opponent first but the truth is that Starsurge is one of the slowest abilities in the game. What are the statistics saying? In higher levels his playrate and win rate are terrible. For the average player his playrate and winrate are basically unchanged. According to ranked boost Aurelion Sol is currently an E tier mid laner which is kind of sad. So overall, are the changes good? For a completely new player maybe, but he/she will quickly realise that there are champs who can do the current Aurelion's job but far better. For an old Aurelion sol player , definitely not.... his unique playstlye is gone, now he is just one from the many. AurelionSol
