First look at this pre season

So we've been in pre season for a couple of days and we have played several matches, many of us already finished doing our placements and we've seen a scope of what the assasin update has done to the game. People are slowly but surely getting familiar with plants and the changes to the jungle, but are we happy or not?

  • Placements The first feeling I had finishing my placement matches for flex ranked, was dissapointment. I was put in Bronze 2, while I am a Platinum 4 DQ/SoloQue player. But I can understand that the new ranked ladder needs to be repopulated so there is no gold+ rank to populate the ranks yet, nevertheless if you have fought all season to get to Platinum or whatever elo you got to if you climbed, it feels devastating to see that you're going to be in Bronze 2 even if it means nothing and it might all change, it feels like a suckerpunch and people have said to me that they completely feel like they have no more fun in ranked games, because all their effort seems lost.

We all know that this rank has no real meaning, but when you open your profile page and you see Flex Rank Bronze, while you're a Gold+ player you have to feel at least a little gutted.

The next worry I have is the double placements. Now and when the season starts. So if I get into Gold in the preseason with my SoloQue placements and I have to do placements again for S7, do I risk getting cut down all the way to silver or not? This is something I think Riot should answer.

  • Jungle plants Personally I think the plants add a little bit to the game and they have some benefits but it's not something I would consider a notable game changer. I don't see the fun of plants in pro matches, I don't want a game to be decided on some lucky blastcone which has probably already happened anyway. I also haven't seen any real counter jungling in the games I have played and the way I see the jungle now, early cheeses and counter jungling has been made a lot tougher, taking away a big part of the character of the game.

I noticed that jungle sustain is now even better and you can basilcy clear you jungle twice before even having to recall. So first back can now be around 1300 gold, without ever being low. I don't think it's healthy that any kind of jungler can just clear jungle without any problem. It makes the jungle stale and boring, but also gives a disadvantage to early game junlers that used to get their strenght from early game weaknesses of others.

  • Assasins This is the part where I feel annoyed the most and let down by Riot. Riot wanted assasins to do tons of damage, but stated that they wanted people to be able to respond to assasins and not that you would be dead the moment you see a Katarina. However, things aren't getting better with the assasin update, far from it.

I have done several games against Fizz and let me tell you, this champion is beyond broken right now. I can win my early lane and go 3/0 versus him just to end up being killed over and over again by him diving me every single time he has his ult up. You can't get away, and even when you start item 3001, you end up getting killed. He then goes off to another lane to kill even more. He just seems to be unstopbale, and you cannot escape him. So it's either don't farm at all or die trying to farm. I see people that have a 20% winrate on this champ snowballing the sh*t out of games beating people that are 2 divisions higher. For me that's enough of a clue to know this isn't right. (slight winrate increase in 6.22 Korea)

Leblanc I don't know how he does it, but he seems to be able to 1 shot 2 champions at once now, not sure what's going on but he's on my banlist. (slight winrate increase in 6.22 Korea)

Khazix Pre season? Kha Season you mean. This champion's mid game is so insanely strong that it's not even remotely fun to have him in the game. Time to respond? Yeah you have time to scream while you see yourself getting killed. (almost 1% winrate increase in 6.22 Korea)

Rengar He's still the champion he always was and should have been, but with his changes and updates he's popular and annoying once again. (slight winrate increase in 6.22 Korea)

Akali Who?

Heimerdinger What!? Not an assasin at all, but I have seen stats changing around Heimerdinger on most servers and they are all swaying heavily and hard. So what changed for Heimerdinger? Masteries had some significant changes but mostly this item item 3001 which is now a huge item on Heimer. I've seen 1 v 3 situations where Heimer got off laughing with a tripple kill. Something I havn't seen in a while. Heimer mid might even be a thing in SoloQue. (Significant increases in winrate on several servers 6.22)

My overall feeling with the current assasins is that it's a good idea for Riot to want us to be able to see them coming and be able to do something before being killed, but we can't really do something right now, we can only see how our impending doom is storming towards us and going to make a speedy exit while they defecate on our corpses. I'm looking at you Fizz.

  • Turrets Last but not least, turrets feel nerfed hard. especially the nexus turrets and inhibitor turrets, because they no longer have beams but interval missile type attacks like the outer turrets have. Today I got dived by a Hecarim and Blitzcrank under my nexus turrets while I was playing Poppy. They just went in killed me and walked away with 80% health. Nexus and inhib turrets are real sh*t right now. Something should be done.

All in all I feel frustrated with the current state of the game, but then again it is pre season. Still the game should still be fun to play right? Right now it's not. Not at all! Having Bronze and Diamond players in the same ranked game doesn't make it better either. Hope things get better soon but I haven't seen any significant changes on the PBE yet.
