Ranked

I am curently in S4 and my cousin is S3. We play duo and I could say a lot by now but there is a problem. We get 17 LP. I get it that it is up to your MMR but ours is average or even higher than that. And I know that this might be becouse it is duo but even when we play apart we get the same amout. Can someone explain why?? Thanks!!
