Why aren't ruins free?

Hi im a scrub silver four player who rarely plays and mostly just surfs the memes and games sections of the boards and while doing this the other day a thought occurred to me, why aren't ruins free? This is really just a question but i'm going to give my opinion on why I believe they should be free. I believe they should be free because it will help all players like me who are on that dividing line between spending IP on new champions or spending IP on runes. Now i'm aware that if i played more I would be able to afford both eventually but I am a very casual player. Runes should also be free to help new players experiment and discover for themselves what runes work best for what champions. Those are just a couple reasons I myself believe that runes should be free, if you can think of better reasons or reasons of your own pls feel free to express your opinion or ideas i really wanna know what you think.

No idea, maybe try asking the Aztecs.

Because, if ruins were free, then there would be too many people adventuring in the wrong places. You gotta pay to make sure they adventuring in the safe, boring places. But hey, I assure you, the ruins you don't have to pay to explore, are probably more thrilling than the ones that are monitored by over obsessive parents.

Personally I never had a problem with Runes prices.

I don't go out of my way to buy every champion because I know I'm not going to play every champion.

So instead of wasting my IP on champions I'll only use every blue moon I purchase the proper Runes for the champions I do play often.

However when I do buy Runes I prefer to wait for the rune sales at the beginning of the season. I was especially grateful for the 2 for 1 rune page sales they have. I now have 8 rune pages when other wise I would've had 5.

because they are usually covered by monument protection laws, and the property theyre standing on is owned by someone.

So you can learn how to play the game with only those runes you have. Tier 2 runes are 1 ip each, so you wont even miss out a lot.

Same reason why all champs aren't free

Ignoring the way too easy joke, its so you use RP to buy IP boosts and champions if you're too impatient to save up.

runes are free you dont pay $ for them. you get IP for free for playing ....

if they made runes cost no IP then you would use IP on nothing but champs.... therefore you wouldnt get RP for champs and RIOT being a BUSINESS makes less $

Riot is greedy. Probably 1% of their income is from non-skin purchases and yet they still insist on IP gating the hell out of champs and runes.

Having a cost for runes might have made sense once in a world with champions being released for different IP prices, but since all new champions now cost 7200 / 6300 IP, having runes (and rune pages) not be free makes no sense.
