Ranked, Why can't i get out of bronze....

iPeachy·9/17/2016, 7:30:32 PM·5 votes·4,663 views

Is there anyway to get out of bronze. I know I'm not super great but i know for sure I'm not bronze. I just keep getting stuck with trolls and people who don't think when they play...(trying to be nice). I'm a sup main, but i can play every role.

Is there any tips or tricks that can help me be in the level I truly deserve to be in?

I looked at your stats.

Things I noticed from your ranked games and your normals:

  1. You never build item 2049. This is probably the most important item in the game for a support. Support is my secondary and the first thing I notice when I play in my normal games verse my ranked games is that Bronze players almost never build sightstone, silver support mains sometimes build it, and gold or higher almost always build it ever game. Build sightstone and get a sweetper
  2. You are a support, but you aren't building items that help your team. item 3190 is a great early buy regardless of who you are playing with as support. Stop building item 3165 early when you are supporting. It is a bad item for a support, if you want early cdr get item 3174, or item 3158. Run some scaling CDR runes if you want or flat ones.
  3. Have 2 pink wards. One on the map at all times and one in your inventory. I sometimes have 2 in my inventory and will drop a pink to deny ward gold if my pink is being killed. It annoys people. I usually have the one on hand for combat.
  4. Climbing out of the bottom lane is hard unless you play with consistently competent players. That starts to occur around mid to high gold. Silver and Bronze is a crapshoot when it comes to ADC skill. I hate supporting lower elo ADCs because they often do not understand when to engage and when not too, power spikes, item differentials, or wave management.
  5. You should focus on disengage for your ADC instead of engage in your elo. Trust me the more you try to disengage the better in your Elo. Sometimes picking a fight is the worst thing that could occur in the bot lane unless you KNOW with very high certainty that the ADC will autoattack, hit skill shows, and damage the right target. If you are even a bit unsure of this, just play disengage and let the other team screw up. Mistakes happen A LOT in your elo so you are better off waiting for the enemy to make their first one than for you to make one.
  6. Fight when you have a minion advantage but do not when you have a disadvantage.
  7. You are the engage player in that lane and you are the one to make decisions. Don't listen to the ADC pretty much ever, unless you KNOW they are good. You need to make all the decisions in that lane while the ADC farms. Just mute the ADC if they get uppity, supports as you climb, dictate laning in the bot lane more than the ADC, so get use to making your own decisions for yourself and them.

Judging by your games and builds I would say you have a long way to go as a player and probably belong in your current rank unless you actively make improvements.

Try out some of the suggestions.

Hey! I know the pain and frustration. I've been playing League for 5 years and most of the time I've been in bronze for the same reasons as you.

So, here's how I got out:

  1. Play with the team not against. This is harder to do than it sounds. But, if your ADC goes in and does something stupid but you can save them, do it even if you die. If your ADC is alive you did your job. Same goes for team fights. Keep their carries down, even if you die doing it. Even if your team is trash, you can make a fight swing your way.

  2. Map awareness. When I started pining MIA not only for my lane but for all lanes that didn't do it I started wining more. It makes you aware of who's missing and who went where. So you'd know if the enemy jg and mid was coming your way or not.

  3. Play safe. Don't go and die because you didn't ward. Don't engage into a 3v1 even if one of them is under half hp. Only go in when it's a sure thing. As a thresh main this is still one of the hardest things to do. If you go in and die the enemy comes out on top. But if you wait for your chance and take it, well... I ended up with double kills on Thresh supp.

  4. Have a few specific champions for specific roles that you can play well. Thresh is my Tanky supp. Val is my carry supp. But have some other champs you're also good with as a back up. If Vel is banned I go Karma. If Thresh is banned I go tank Soraka.

  5. I can't stress enough how important it is to read the situation. If they have an ADC out all alone and they run into the jg, even tho they could have went for their tower, it's a trap. If their ADC is low and you can go in remember if the ADC has flash or heal up. If they do, don't go in. If they don't, go in and kill. If you as the support kill the ADC, even if you die doing it, you did a good trade. A supp for an ADC is always beneficial for you. Just pay attention to when someone uses flash and other abilities. Always call them when they do. Such as Cait F, or Veig r.

Easiest way to get out of Bronze as a support main is simply playing mage supports. Traditional utility/tank supports are only good when the rest of your team is good. Even if you spoon feed your team kills, if they suck, they won't be able to make use of those kills properly. You can't rely on your team in Bronze.

It should be easy to get fed as a Mage support in Bronze because the players suck.

As far as which mage supports, you'd have to experiment to see what you like. I main Zyra. I throw in a little Vel'koz and some off-meta supports every now and then too.

PS: ALWAYS BUILD A SIGHTSTONE

Tristana Jinx

Take towers.

as vShobosy mentioned, the best (and arguably the only) way to get out of bronze as a support main is to play high damage mage supports like Brand, Zyra and Lux. Don't even bother with a sightstone. Just build full AP and steamroll bot and snowball the game.

play illaoi and everyone will walk into your ult

I got out of bronze by playing Leona as a half-tank, using item 3100 as my primary damage item.

However it does not work anymore once you get into Silver because in Silver you ABSOLUTELY MUST build item 2045 which leaves you without the gold you need to become tanky enough early game to last through one cooldown rotation in team fights.

This worked for me in bronze and is how I got out of it, however once in Silver you have to start sacrificing gold for vision and you simply can't build tank fast enough.

Remember, once you get out of bronze start building sightstone. I hate it myself but It's a must in Silver and up.

Consistently win lane and carry harder than they can

Horse Grenades9/17/2016, 7:33:21 PM1 votes

You can do it! Don't play support. Just focus on improving yourself!

MaliciousX9/20/2016, 2:54:17 PM1 votes

Im a high-mid Gold level player. One thing i can absolutely tell you is to listen to the first guy who posted. ALWAYS build a sightstone as a support. There is absolutely no reason at all whatsoever not to build one. I dont play support, ever, and i can tell you that a sightstone is a must. Vision gives you information about the enemy team, information is everything. The more info you have, the better decisions you and your team are able to make. When you get to higher elo's, building damage on supports is unnecessary. So building talisman, locket, randuins, mikael's crucible, and items that support the team are more common the higher you climb. But in lower elo's like bronze and low silver, while they are still good to buy.....building some dmg early to help snowball or win the lane can be just as effective. It depends on the matchup really. But your first items should always be boots and a sightstone. Period. As an adc main I almost always let my support dictate the lane early, and i follow their lead. If i realize that my support isn't very good, then I abandon that plan and dictate myself. Id rather trust myself to follow someone elses lead, than trust that they will follow my lead. Thats why i play the lane this way. Just some insight for you on how i do things in high Gold. Practice practice practice. Watch supports on youtube & twitch to see what they do and how they do it. Read guides for supports on mobafire. Climbing as a support main can be extremely difficult in low elo, since your stuck relying on your team heavily. The higher you get, it becomes a bit easier. Just focus on what YOU can do to play your best, forget everyone else. Blaming teammates gets you nowhere. That is a big problem in low elo. Everyone thinks theyre better than they are and they all think they deserve to be ranked higher. Until you focus on your own shortcomings, you wont climb. Even when something clearly isnt your fault, accept the responsibility for it, and ask yourself what you could've done differently to change the outcome next time. Idk if any of this will help but i thought id give my thoughts. Good luck my man

If you are bronze 5 and have the attitude that you are not bronze then you will sit in bronze forever. You won't get better because you'll think you are already good enough and you'll continue to blame team mates. You will never climb since you aren't improving and eventually you'll get tired of league and find a new game.

OR

You can realize that if you are in bronze 5 you deserve to be in bronze 5 because it is the easiest elo to get out of. You can figure out what you are doing wrong and change it ( if you are bronze 5 assume you are doing everything wrong ) and then you can start climbing. You can realize your team mates aren't holding you back because the enemy team is terrible and 1v5able and then you'll climb to silver.

I have my retreat ping toggled to my middle mouse button. You should have it somewhere that it is accessible, communicating with your team with that ping is pretty important in general, but as a support I think it is really important. If your team is fighting when you have no mana and can't help them then you need to ping them back or at least let them know you are backing because you can't contribute to the fight.

  1. Play something that can carry Aka stop maining support. Play adc, play kha'zix mid, do whatever you want, play something that can carry.

  2. noobstompers

Yasuo MasterYi Fiora Khazix Rengar Illaoi ~~Aatrox ~~Katarina Jax Mordekaiser

Aka champions people refuse to play around.

Swiftstrike49/17/2016, 10:43:57 PM1 votes

Oh you let your ADC die if they do stupid stuff, especially in your Elo.

Always let them die. After they die a couple times in a row from you not following up they will learn. They may complain a lot but they will, typically stop dying or try to avoid it. Stay in lane with them until 6 and then roam. Ward or go mid. You don't need to always be with the ADC if you are support.

In general, your job is to support the carry (which could be anyone on your team). If that isn't the ADC, your mid laner, jungler, top laner, are doing well, you help them out more.

Lower elo players are in the mindset that the support is just meant to help the adc only. That isn't the case at all. Your job is to help the person who gives you the best chance to win on your team.

It is much worse for you to die alongside the adc from them doing dumb stuff while you are trying to save him/her.

Never help bad players when they keep making mistakes, because they will keep making them throughout the game.

I used to have simular feeling and lost a lot of my first games in bronze 5. I have climbed to bronze 2(hoping for silver becuase I do not rank a lot), and my method was first to admit that I am a scrub and need to improve. Second I play Tristana and push towers like crazy, or play tanks when I do not get adc. If you play a tank and peel for the carry it greatly helps you win games. That's all I gots.

If you want my honest opinion, the best way to get out of Bronze is in the ultimate of your champion. Find a couple champions that you like that also fit under the following rules:

  1. Have a point and click/cannot be dodged ultimate OR large, near instant (or flat out instant) AoE ultimate
  2. Said ultimate (or what the ultimate causes) has large impact on the game

Optional 3rd Rule. It is extremely good to have a defensive mechanic in your kit since most defensive mechanics these days are super powerful

Basically, the following champions are the kind I'm talking about: Annie Brand Darius Diana Evelynn Fiora Gangplank Garen JarvanIV Karthus LeeSin Lissandra Malphite Malzahar Nautilus Nocturne Rumble Shen Skarner Sona Soraka Syndra Veigar Vi Viktor Vladimir Warwick MonkeyKing Zed Zilean Zyra Notice that a few of these are commonly banned especially in lower ELOs, both proving my point and giving you an idea of how feared these champions are. Of course, you need to learn to play one of these champions. No champion can outright carry you out of Bronze without you first at least learning what makes them so good.
