What is Riot's point with new Banshee's Veil?

Mages are already one of the safest classes in the game, having lots of mechanics to krep themselves safe, ranging from slows, to stuns and dashes. This not considering their items.

And now you are giving them another item that not only makes them insanely safe (negating engages by tanks or assassins) but also gives them damage AND CDR to boot.

Say something like Ziggs: he has poke to whittle you down, slows and area denial to delay your engages, a knockback to get you off his face, burst to execute you if you are low enough. And with items/summoners: invulnerability to wait for his team to sabe him/get his cooldowns back and Flash to be extra safe. And now he's being given a shield with an insanely low cooldown from level 8 forward (which is the realistic time he's getting the item).

With this, Riot is not only giving mages even more safety, they are making a new mandatory item for them, ironically reducing item diversity in mages.

I know mage mains complain loud and often enough about getting an AP version of Edge of Night, but you didn't have to go overboard...

I didn't even read your post because I'm being lazy, but here is my explanation. Essentially all they did is swapped the passives of veil and abysal scepter. This is for 1 reason. The spell shield is totally worthless on a tank so the item was almost nonexistent. If you put a spell shield on something intended to be a tank item it is worthless because tanks don't generally care if a single ability hits them at the start of the fight and it even deters the enemy from hitting them making the tank less effective at eating vital cc abilities for their team. Putting this passive with the AP stats of scepter is much more valuable to both tanks and mages. A mage doesn't want to get blown up nor do they want to be in the middle of the enemy team to proc the aura effect. Now both mages and tanks get a better passive for what they are trying to accomplish.

First of all, calm your tits, If you did NOT read the notes correctly, they said 'experimental' which is mostly meaning they are trying the changes to explore possibilities, which makes sense as ways to make some items to match up in particular, just like how item 3026 had that ridiculous use as a 'grab item' for plenty of Damage based champions, which its stats is kind of a contradiction by giving stats to 'survive longer' (Armor/Resist) and a effect that is kind of silly for a 'tank' to make use of. In this regard, i like the idea of them making that item gold inefficent to sway the bs known as 'rambo snowballing' with that item on champions who are ridiculous to kill and because they aren't full built yet they can just slip a GA in and aggravate the enemy team some more.

Really i would welcome more attempts of them trying to change up some items, especially if it leads to them realizing that item 3071 has been such a naughty item for too long and could use its own 'change ups' to force it into its own niche. Maybe gut the health some more to make it more of a aggressive item and less of a EZ 'AD harassive type' pick up that degraded into Marksmen lethality builds.

Mages are already one of the safest classes in the game

Usually having little to no mobility, low base MS, the only safe ones are Ahri Orianna

"Insanely safe" yet I can pop a mage too easily with all of my top laners... it's your own fault if you let the mage stay safe, rotate the map, ward and pick them off. Banshee's ain't saving noone from multiple CC skills from 1 tank alone.
